This is a truly magical place with wonderful people. If you are looking for beautiful scenery, amazing tea and great company look no further.
Located just a few minutes from Volcano National Park, Big Island Tea is a wonderful side trip on your Big Island adventure. Our hosts, Eliah and Cam, have a wonderful food forest that's easy to get to and they are very knowledgable and hospitable. First, we took an easy walking tour of their five acre property that features not only tea plants but also coffee, a bamboo grotto and a wide assortment of other tropical plants. We were accompanied by their ball-fetching dogs and shown their tea processing house before sitting down to a tea-tasting on the lanai. While I'm not much of a tea lover, my friends were in heaven and I had a delightful time learning about different kinds of tea and the process of curing it. I left feeling like we had made some new friends and will be taking all of our visitors there for a unique and wonderful experience.
Our family had the great pleasure of the reopening today of Dr. Cam and his wife Eliah tea farm. The walk thru the entire farm was serene and educational. Learning about how the forest can help with growth and how tea is cultivated and brought to tea lovers. We enjoyed several tastings of their leaves along with some amazing sweets. The best was just relaxing and swapping stories with the founders. Please go to their farm and relax, Mahalo to them for a lovely day.
Amazing experience at Big Island Tea! I honestly can’t recommend this tour enough. Dr. Muir and his wife are super knowledgeable and doing some amazing things. This was truly one of the highlights of our trip to the big island. If you get a chance for sure book a tour. On top of that, it was probably the best tea I have ever had.
My wife and I are big tea enthusiasts, but have never had the opportunity to visit a farm before as they are so rare within the United States. While visiting the Big Island we saw this farm and decided to try the tour. While we would have loved the the attend workshop they offer, we had our 2 year old with us and thought it would be a bit much.Cam and Eliah met us outside and gave us a tour of the farm followed by a tea tasting. The tour was very interesting. They grow a large variety of plants and are so excited to share their experiences! The entire tour felt very friendly and you were very much treated like Ohana. We were nervous about doing a tour with a two year old and when he started to throw a fit and they were both amazing with him! He ended up having so much fun. They both really know what they are talking about and have developed a fascinating concept. Instead of simply giving the tea plants what they need to survive for harvest, they are building a full natural ecosystem around the tea plants to help them thrive as naturally as possible. Does it pay off?Yes! The flavor of the tea is outstanding! I cannot overstate what a difference the natural environment makes for the tea and the number of overtones it picks up from its environment. The tea tastes distinctly Hawaiian with floral and citrus notes lifting the tea and opening the palette. I recently attended a chocolate tasting where I tried bars of chocolate made at the same factory from beans grown at various locations. The Ecuadorian, Tanzanian, and Hawaiian beans all had very different flavors, the Hawaiian being my favorite. Yet the fascinating thing that I found here, was that the overtones in the Hawaiian chocolate were were almost identical to the overtones in the tea I tasted today. All this to say, Hawaiian produce has a distinct and beautiful flavor and the way Cam and Eliah run their farm shows true respect to their Āina.
Cam, the owner, knows his stuff! A biology professor, Cam is an expert in growing tea and loves to share his passion with visitors. The tour included an expansive walk of the 5-acre farm along with a thorough tasting of black and green tea. This experience was one I will remember for the rest of my life. A must!
Cam and Eliah took care of us like family. We got a tour of the 3 acre farm with more different types of plants than i could name, including the tea itself. The climate up at 2800' was perfect. Then we sat down and had some of the best tea I've tasted. Great trip!
Excellent experience. We were given an amazing tour of the property. Answered all of our questions and had a great conversation. Tea was divine!! Well worth it.
Magical! Eliah met us at the gate, and was gracious and genuine, as she guided us through her tea farm and beautiful tropical garden. Eliah provided a lovely tea, featuring Big Island Teas and delicious treats. This experience will provide many years of best memories!Thank you, Eliah!
There are so many great things to say about Big Island Tea, so please bear with me. We signed up for a full day tea workshop (9am to 4pm) and it was the some of the best (and quickest) 7 hours of my life! Whether you’re a tea enthusiast/expert/beginner, conservationist, or seeker of knowledge, visiting Big Island Tea is for you. There are a number of tea farms on the Big Island that you can visit and tour, but the agro-forestry and sustainable farming practices that Eliah and Cam have thoughtfully put into their tea, really differentiated them for me. They are a small business with a big passion for high-quality tea, and that is something that you can feel good about supporting. Our workshop consisted of:· Educational farm tour with an in-depth view of sustainability practices· Tea tasting (both their Kilinoe Green and ‘A‘a Black) with snacks· 1.5 hour tea picking· Tea wilting· Tea firing/hand-rolling process· Picking up the finished and dried product the next dayBeing able to personally go through the process from start to finish and to learn the techniques that Eliah and Cam use opens up your perspective on the tea industry. Also tasting the difference in their cup because of the hand-processing and respect they put into their farming, is a special experience. In addition, the smell of the tea being processed is so delicious and incredible, that I would have to encourage someone to actually go there to experience that first-hand. Even if you don’t have the time for the full workshop, I would recommend contacting Eliah for at least a tour and tasting.I left Big Island Tea not only feeling relaxed, educated and elated, but also felt like I gained two new members to my extended family. Eliah and Cam are just about the kindest and most educated individuals I have come across, and I’m so glad that their passion is in tea.

An informative and delightful tea tour and excellent green and black tea.
The BEST tea, and a lovely tour led by the charming Eliah or her equally charming husband, Cam. This is a must for anyone who wants a taste of real Hawaii.
