Amazing find! Highly recommend if you’re out by Hilo! The owners were so sweet and helped us make our baumkuchen which tasted amazing! Absolutely would do again and was a highlight on this trip
Wonderful cakes and wonderful people! I was very lucky to pick up the last mango and coffee baumkuchens at the Hilo Farmer's Market...and I am so glad I did! These little cakes are perfect...not too sweet and perfectly delicate. Baumkuchen were very popular in Japan where I grew up, as they are not overly sweet or heavy, so it was a nostalgic and happy find for me. Highly recommend to anyone who appreciates the skill and time it goes into making refined desserts (it's not easy!!) as well as anyone who enjoys truly amazing cake! ☺️
It was a nice surprise to find this farm!!! Delicious tree cake in various tropical flavors!!! We will be back!!!!

Another favorite Hawaiian adventure took place at the family-owned Baumkuchenfarmhilo.
We traveled to the rainforest side of Big Island, and baked a German dessert known as Baumstriezel around a fire pit. We then enjoyed the Baumstriezel we baked ourselves alongside the Baumkuchen cake that is made and sold onsite.
It was a nice quiet break in our busy travel itinerary to just sit, relax, and talk with the very kind farm owners.
Beautiful property and amazing treats!
This is a great stop to make. The thing that surprised me most about Hawaii was the incredible diversity of cultures, and this is a great example. The tour was a lot of fun. The couple that own the farm/bakery are extremely nice.
The farm tour is a nice treat with lovely views for both visitors and locals to East Big Island. Markus was a delightful host with lots of stories and anecdotes about baumkuchen. He artfully wove a thread through its history in Germany, touch points to Japan, and incidental connections to Hawaii. The tour is not very long, family friendly, and culminates at the gift shop where you can sample some delicious treats. The baumkuchen was like nothing I have ever tasted. The texture is delicate, the layers of sponge were moist, and the flavors were absolutely delicious. The pineapple was my favorite of the standard flavors, but I will never forget their seasonal special: ube/blueberry, beetroot/raspberry, and filled with a coconut cream. The shop offered very reasonably priced goodies that made great gifts to my coworkers. I highly recommend a visit, and I am glad we have such a wonderful and unique place on the Big Island!
Great place, people, and products. A real high quality item.
Mahalo Nui
We were there today at 3.15 pm and were really looking forward to the different tree cakes. Unfortunately, we stood in front of a locked gate and no one was there. Since we were only able to set it up today, this is of course a disappointment for us.
A great stop and definitely worth a trip! If you want to see the oven in action, you should go on Thursdays (10 a.m. to 12 p.m.). Free tours are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays. All information is on the homepage! We thought the tour was great! Be prepared for some history lessons too ? The area is also beautiful - would be great to use it for other events as well... (although there are many mosquitoes, so bring some repellent)

Highly recommended! This is a cute and nice place with great cake and nice coffee! Recommend take the tour to gain more knowledge of baumkuchen.
We tried the Hawaiian Coffee Baumkuchen Cake, we had never had Baumkuchen Cake before so I had no idea what to expect, it was delicious! Moist and so yummy, I can't wait to have more!
So happy we found this lovely place in our research of unique things to do near Hilo. I have some German heritage and also just always love seeing offerings that blend cultures. The cakes are super yummy as well as the tortes, but we also really loved talking to Markus and hearing how passionate he is about baking these special cakes and how much he loves his home in Hawaii.
