Wonderful experience! We did the Tuesday afternoon tour and learned about the history of baumkuchen and some other fun history in an engaging presentation. If you want to see the baking in action, it doesn't happen during the tour time; instead, the tour focuses on an intro/discussion, a short guided tour around the beautifully landscaped property, and then a final wrap-up at the gift shop. Friendly people, tasty products. They also sell culinary salts; the green one is delicious. Bring bug spray if the mosquitoes like you. We loved this visit. Thanks so much!

A really great experience! Not often you get to bake a pastry over an open fire. Highly recommend it if you have a couple hours on your way up the hamakua coast. Gotta have a reservation though.

Such a special place!
Baumkuchen Farm is more than just delicious cake (though the Japanese-style baumkuchen is incredible, so soft and flavorful!). The whole experience is peaceful and welcoming. The free farm tour was informative, and the owners were genuinely kind, & love what they do. What a beautiful place to share.

Their handcrafted island salt and signature cake make the perfect souvenirs… truly a piece of Hawai‘i to take home. Beautiful spot, great people, and totally worth the visit!

Super cute spot! Their Baumkuchen has a yummy Japanese twist—so moist and delicious. Loved the flavor variety and dessert option. The salt flavors are great and all are awesome gifts to take. Loved the free farm tour, gorgeous grounds, and honestly the fanciest bathroom I’ve seen outside a resort. Definitely worth a stop!

Baumkuchen Farm offers a delightful experience with its delicious Baumkuchen and stunning property. The german owners are incredibly friendly and welcoming, enhancing the visit. Don't miss the free farm tour, where you can sample various flavors of Baumkuchen and learn about the farm's history and German-Hawaiian heritage. The tour includes visits to their vanilla plants and mangosteen trees, culminating at their charming store, where you can purchase these delectable treats. This is a must-visit for anyone looking to enjoy a unique culinary experience in Hawaii!

Wonderful cakes and wonderful people! I was very lucky to pick up the last mango and coffee baumkuchens at the Hilo Farmer's Market...and I am so glad I did! These little cakes are perfect...not too sweet and perfectly delicate. Baumkuchen were very popular in Japan where I grew up, as they are not overly sweet or heavy, so it was a nostalgic and happy find for me. Highly recommend to anyone who appreciates the skill and time it goes into making refined desserts (it's not easy!!) as well as anyone who enjoys truly amazing cake! ☺️

Another favorite Hawaiian adventure took place at the family-owned Baumkuchenfarmhilo.

We traveled to the rainforest side of Big Island, and baked a German dessert known as Baumstriezel around a fire pit. We then enjoyed the Baumstriezel we baked ourselves alongside the Baumkuchen cake that is made and sold onsite.

It was a nice quiet break in our busy travel itinerary to just sit, relax, and talk with the very kind farm owners.

This is a great stop to make. The thing that surprised me most about Hawaii was the incredible diversity of cultures, and this is a great example. The tour was a lot of fun. The couple that own the farm/bakery are extremely nice.
