Great venue, right in the beach. Sunset was amazing. Service was friendly and timely. Food was very good. Low key atmosphere was appreciated.
spent day at beach and caught sunset with clear skies at Hau Tree. I'd suggest reservations, but looked like they do walk ups. lookout for a roaming cat (quiet and friendly)! good food too!
I have been going to the Hau Tree yearly for many years. We love the quiet informality combined with great food and service. I was looking forward to a great burger with a Mai Tai. Was surprised that entire menu changed and burgers were not available for dinner. New Mexican theme..very overpriced for offerings of relatively simple Mexican food (enchiladas more than $40) even in an expensive hotel. Food good but not outstanding. Copper Bar may be better option.
Beachside venue. It's a part of the Mauna Kea Resort. Valet parking that's complimentary if you are coming in off property and eating at their restaurant
The view is amazing, the food mediocre and the service was poor. Waiter did not listen and was somewhat rude. She had messed up the order at the next table and messed up our order. We were clear we wanted gluten free and she served is tacos on wheat flour tortillas. When we made the reservation and again when checked in they asked about food allergies and we also told the waiter about our requirements. No excise for a high end place that charges around $25 for tacos.
We love this place and were excited about trying the new menu. The drinks, service and ambiance were perfect but the food was such a disappointment. Menu design was good but execution was terrible to be honest, the food was flavorless and presented poorly. If you have someone who knows what they are doing, it is not hard....
Love this place. Food is great and service and great views .Island nachos a plus and shrimp cocktail.Thumbs up to Angie she was very good . Thank you...

The view is wonderful, staff is great, but the menu has been updated to an exclusively Mexican theme for dinner, with a few additional items available at lunch (burger, chicken sandwich) - and the dinner selection is severely limited (think typical Mexican restaurant, divide choices by 5). The food quality was fine, but it's no longer a place for multiple dinners because the selection is so limited. Will avoid dinner in the future and will only visit for lunch.

Great spot with reasonable prices for a resort. We had dinner here on a Saturday night and we made a reservation although you probably wouldn’t need one if you were a smaller party. The Sinaloa Chicken was AMAZING!

Ignore all the older reviews - the new Hau Tree Cantina opened in November 2025 and is completely different from the former Hau Tree restaurant. Location is stunning as before, service is good, but the food is completely flavorless (and of course overpriced). Everything we ordered from the Tacos, to salads, to appetizers was completely bland and without flavor. Major disappointment. If you want to eat $35 tacos that taste worse than Taco Bell, this is the place for you! We have come here for 15 years and now this place is a complete no go, what a shame. Management, please correct this asap.

The staff is great but the food is awful ! There was four of us. We sat at the bar. The cocktails were very scarce, but the bartender was great. Then we sat at the table. The waitress was great, but the food was terrible. The crab shrimp enchilada look like it came out of a can never saw any shrimp nor crab in it. The chips are great and the salsa was good. The main dish was terrible. My friend had branzino fish. I’ve been to a lot of great restaurants and they debone the fish at the table. They just slapped the whole fish on the plate, and that was it. I live here, and I was very disappointed and will not be returning.
Canned beer & expensive mediocre food.
Marriott has dropped the ball again...
New management please.

On the beach at the Mauna Kea resort. The restaurant will validate your parking and you can go hang out on the beach afterwards or order take out while you’re on the beach. We got the poke, cesar salad with mahi, and a burger. All of it solid - but pricey, but you know that at a resort. Service is great and you can’t beat the view. Try the frederico which is a Mai tai with whiskey in it.
Overall not bad for above average beach food - just pricey. Would recommend for convenience if you’re going to hang out at the Mauna Kea beach.

Menu was different than what they show online. Service is not the best, food is ok at best.

Beautiful setting on the beach. Lively atmosphere. The service was uneven, there were long stretches with no contact where more drinks could have been ordered or plates cleared. The food was ... okay. Somewhat uninspired menu, and they were out of several items we asked about on the menu. Portions were on the small side. Wine came in plastic glasses (understandable due to the beach setting) but they had a strange smell to them. Overall it was okay. Sunset was a highlight.
