Beautiful setting on the beach. Lively atmosphere. The service was uneven, there were long stretches with no contact where more drinks could have been ordered or plates cleared. The food was ... okay. Somewhat uninspired menu, and they were out of several items we asked about on the menu. Portions were on the small side. Wine came in plastic glasses (understandable due to the beach setting) but they had a strange smell to them. Overall it was okay. Sunset was a highlight.
Our second visit to Hau Tree, this time just the two of us, and it was just as memorable. The restaurant is currently undergoing renovations, but it didn't affect the experience. We were happy to see our previous server, Conor, and requested to sit in his section—he was amazing last time and didn't disappoint. This was a great family, friendly dinner spot. You can't beat the location itself, on the beach. However, the restaurant is being remodeled-which really didn't matter to us. However there are portable bathrooms and some privacy construction screens. Food was fine, not amazing but fine. Kids menu was good.
