This was our third visit to Merriman's Waimea. It is always so delicious! The use of local ingredients and the skill of the chef make for an excellent meal anytime. The atmosphere is very nice and comfortable. Our party would definitely recommend the Kaluha Pork Saimin, the Taro Hummus, and the Ono was the best fish we had ever had!
Outstanding experience. magnificent customer service always checking with customer. making sure drinks were filled and asking if were good. first class dining facility.
We loved the food. Fresh ingredients, wonderful flavors, vegan options. Everyone in our party found their perfect entree. I love this restaurant.
Must have been a bad day. Took awhile to get our reserved table, took an hour to receive food and I have to say the brunch menu was not exciting. Sent back mango margarita (too strong) it didn't come off the bill. Ughhh.
We come here for lunch multiple times each visit to the Big Island. Perfect setting in Waimea, the prices are much more reasonable and the food is terrific.
Exceptional food and delightful service. Everything we ordered was one of the best things we've ever eaten. We'll definitely be back when visiting the Big Island.
Faith was a wonderful server, making our lunch visit very enjoyable. Quaint place, off the beaten track with a historical flair. Food was excellent and served quickly.
Best Restaurant on the island. It is worth the drive. Make sure you make a reservation. We went on a Monday night and it was packed.
The idea of wrapping up the Merrie Monarch with a special muʻumuʻu lunch was very nice. The ambiance was special. The caesar salad was good, but so very small. The smash burger felt like it was missing the burger part - hardly even had meat there. The pannacotta was delicious, but, again, a very small serving.
Best on the island. Wonderful food, efficient but not overbearing service. Local tomato salad...wonderful ripe tomatoes that actually taste like tomatoes, Lobster ravioli great, and ono en papiote (sp?) was a unique preparation when we've eaten so much commonly prepared fish this trip (can you say macadamia-crusted mahi?). Thanks for another great evening!

Great service. Good food and cocktails. It was overpriced, but to be expected.

We started with the ginger martini, which was on point. The ginger flavor was subtle and the martini with just a hint of sweetness.
Next we had the beet salad. The macadamia nuts added to the texture of the salad. The dressing added to the flavor of the beets without overpowering them.
I ordered the chateaubriand, rare. The sauce and the taro whipped potato complimented the taste and texture of the beef. My spouse had the catch of the day cooked to a tender flakiness.
We finished the meal with the coconut and lime sorbet. The sorbet was creamy with a balanced flavor of coconut and lime. The shortbread cookies were light and airy - better than a traditional dense shortbread.
Overall, this was the best dining experience we had on the island.

It’s been a long time since my last visit to this Waimea institution. Luckily, it hasn’t changed appreciably in that time … That’s a good thing, IMO. I ordered a bottle of 2018 Robert Sinskey Vineyards Pinot Noir from Los Caneros in Napa ($109). Deep ruby in color, there were hints of raspberry, tobacco and earthy tones. It was a good choice with our entrees.
We shared the Spicy Kona Lobster Ravioli ($28) … This is how lobster ravioli should taste … a light butter sauce and toasted croutons. Yum!
My friend ordered the Kahua Ranch lamb cooked two ways ($55) and I ordered the Chateaubriand ($59). We shared an order of Mushroom Pot Pie ($22). My beef came perfectly cooked and was served with mashed potatoes, haricot vert and a mushroom sauce. The lamb looked good … I tried a piece of loin, and it was delicious. The mushroom pot pie was delicious! I was hoping it contained morels, but the button mushrooms were fine. It was the crust and the sauce that made the dish a winner.
We were too full to attempt dessert, so our meal ended there. $293 + tip for a fine meal is reasonable to me. Four and a half stars … Highly recommended!

I think it's the best food on the island. The saimin at lunch is a standout, but we've never had anything we didn't love.
That being said, the only hot sauce options are Tabasco and Sriracha, which is a bummer to see at a restaurant that's all about local ingredients. There are so many good local hot sauces!
