This is one of those businesses where the atmosphere wins out even if the coffee is nothing special. It's cozy and inviting with a bunch of different seating arrangements. Cafe Diem reminds me of how coffee shops used to be, where the sense of place was the most important thing. It seems to really get a nice mix of students and non-students and older folks, a good cross-section of the community. My biggest complaint is for the love of all that is good in the world, can they *please* get better plastic cups? They use the flimsiest cups where you can barely attach the lid and it feels like the cup will collapse inward if you even look at it too hard.

I've been here a number of times and never had anything but a positive experience. The atmosphere is very nice for getting caffeinated and working on homework or having a personal meeting, the food is enjoyable especially for a small coffee shop (I LOVED the chicken salad sandwich last time!).
But this experience today at 3:40pm on Labor Day was by far the BEST so far. The lovely lady at the counter was SO INCREDIBLY helpful and thoughtful. She helped me understand the different types of coffees available and how best to get the drink I was hoping for, for the best price I could. She was so absolutely wonderful, I had such a great experience. She didn't have to go out of her way to help me find the best drink I could afford but she absolutely did, and was so kind about it. I liked this place before, but now I think I can say I totally love it!

Came here for a quick breakfast and really loved everything! We both got breakfast sandwiches and coffee. I got the seasonal Bourbon Caramel Cold Brew with Coconut Foam. Both the food and drinks came out quickly. The sandwiches were super tasty and filling. The ingredients tasted fresh. Love the little bit of outdoor seating that they had since the weather was nice! Some cool merch inside, too!

This place was awesome! I'm glad they had Internet connection. I only wish that they had outlets near every table. Other than that, they're great!

Gone many times, every time the atmosphere and vibe is consistent. Service can be a bit slow at times, but they are very friendly. Parking is hard to find at busy times due to location.
The coffee drinks are good, but the espresso has a bitter taste to it. I love their chai lattes. Their natural lotus energy drinks are to die for! I highly recommend them if you like energy drinks and want a healthier option.
Their grilled cheese is really good, and it looks like it was made with homemade bread! Their Ruben sandwich is good as well, but I default to the grilled cheese. Each sandwich comes with a side of chips or carrots.

Lovely place if you want an amazing coffee or smoothie! My girlfriend had a coffee that was amazing and I had a smoothie with banana and strawberry. I’m not a big coffee guy, but I’d rate 5/5 simply for having something for us non-coffee people! Definitely will return! Bonus points for playing some Zach Bryan and other hits that fit the mood.

One of my go-to coffee shops in Ames! I personally love their cold brew and different drip coffee brews they offer.
Awesome place to come study or meet up with others -- lots of different seating options (booths, tables + chairs, large tables, single tables) which makes it nice to have such a variety of options. The baristas are always SO sweet and kind and will give you recommendations on their favorite drinks ? food is good too! Cinnamon rolls are HUGE. If they have the tiramisu when you go, it is a must have.
Dietary restrictions: They have a good amount of dairy free milk options. I usually get oat milk!
Parking: You can park directly in front of Cafe Diem using parking meters, or if there are no spaces there and you don't mind walking, I usually park in the paid parking meter lot adjacent to Ames First United Methodist Church (corner of Kellogg and 5th) it's only a short walk from there!

Food-well drink in my case. I ordered an iced Chai latte with oat milk. What I received tasted like Cinnamon Toast Crunch milk. Not sure if the Chai was left out or what.
Service—the gal taking our orders was polite, but did not go above and beyond, or try to make small talk.
Atmosphere-I enjoyed the aesthetic and atmosphere. The hanging doors as table dividers was cool. A few patrons appeared to utilizing spaces for the Internet cafe needs.
Parking out front is metered, but there us free parking to the south.
Would I come here again? Probably.

Great location, great food and excellent digs to meet new friends and old. A staple in Ames.
Parking: You can find a pay parking spot on main street near the front door, or in the free parking lot behind the south side businesses (across from Cafe Diem).

Used to be great but has been spoiled by success. Often times long lines, long wait. Prices are much too high. A coffee and a scone destroy a $20 bill. The last few times I tried a specialty coffee drink there I got something that looked and tasted like milky hot water. The vinyl upholstery in the booths is so cracked and torn up that it will cut your legs if you're wearing shorts. I'm over this place. There are too many good coffee places in Ames to waste time and $$ here.
