The Outside Scoop

We recently had the Outside Scoop truck at our wedding and I think it was one of the best decisions we made! We have loved getting ice cream from Outside Scoop for years, so we felt it was the perfect idea to have them at our wedding as well. The booking process was easy, we got to choose the ice cream flavors, and they communicated very well. We got a lot of compliments on having ice cream at our wedding and would highly recommend the idea to others getting married!

The icecream is amazing!! My favorite flavor is the Goat Cheese and Roasted Cherries. If you have not tried it...you should!

My daughter in law went to school with one of the owners when he started the business selling ice cream out of a food truck. Watched the business grow for a few years. Finally got around to visiting his new-ish brick and mortar store.

Half dozen kids working the counter who don't know how to listen and are more about being fast than precise. Nobody really in charge. Supplies (napkins/spoons/etc) needed restocked. Floor needed swept. Trash dumped.

Just because something is expensive, doesn't make it good. And if it is expensive, it BETTER be damn good. I'm too old to pay $10 for a milkshake. I don't care how many flavor choices you give me. Not really much here for me to get excited about.

Not in a big hurry to return. It's good that they don't need my business to make a go of it.

Great selection. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Love this place.

They need more than one person on Sunday at noon. Poor girl had a line and was alone but she was amazing.

Best ice cream shop in Ankeny. Huge selection, free samples, new seasonal flavors and something for everyone. Cherry goat cheese, dutch letter and Snickers are some of my favorites.

Ive been going here ever since I was a small boy, this is the best ice cream place I have ever been to, The Coffee Toffee flavor is the best

I’d like to thank the Outside Scoop, operated by the 12-year-old Kylia for supporting the troop on the RAGBRAI events! We’re grateful for your awesome ice cream on a hot day, and it reminded us of why we choose to serve the people of the USA everyday!

The ice cream was delicious and there were plenty of flavors to chose from.

Resident Services Director speaking here from Rock Creek Senior Living. Huge shout out to the staff at the Ankeny location today at about 3:15. I brought in IL/AL and memory care residents today for ice cream. The staff were patient, courteous, and caring as they worked with this elderly population. It was wonderful to see. Thank you so much for making this outing such a huge success!

We’ve been coming here every Friday for over a year because the ice cream is excellent—easily one of the best spots in town. The quality has always felt worth the higher price, and it’s been a fun weekly tradition for our family.

Lately though, the portion sizes have become extremely inconsistent. We always order two scoops in one bowl, but what we receive depends entirely on who’s working that night. Sometimes it’s overflowing, and other times it barely looks like a single scoop. Tonight, my two-scoop order was noticeably smaller than my daughter’s one scoop.

A couple weeks ago, one employee seemed confused and thought two scoops meant a half scoop on each side of the bowl. It really feels like the newer staff aren’t being properly trained on standard portion sizes.

There shouldn’t be this much variation week to week. This is basic food prep, and we’re sure there are portion guidelines or scales to keep things consistent. I can’t keep justifying paying these premium prices when I never know how much ice cream I’m actually going to get.

Great variety of flavors, and the location is perfect walking distance to other store fronts.
