I love this place, I eat here often, great food, service, atmosphere, and the location is perfect for me; I just moved to Bondurant a couple of months ago, I’m exploring all the local businesses, these people have been amazing in welcoming us.

Really wanted to like it and was too optimistic based on the reviews, so I’m going to leave an honest one. Also, we only tried 2 things, so perhaps there’s something better on the menu that we didn’t try.

The food was fresh and the service was nice. That’s the good.

Basically the bad was nothing had flavor. Maybe it’s because it’s in a small town, but it’s like they barely added salt and avoided the traditional spices that make Mexican food great.
Additionally, the chicken was overcooked and questionable quality. Especially for the price.
Would love to try them again since small towns could always use more places to eat, but I don’t know if I’m willing too

Our second restaurant experience in Bondurant was Bonita Mexican Grill. We stopped by for dinner last night and were surprised at how busy it was for a bit later in the evening.

We started with the Cheese Dip (regular size). We were a little disappointed at how small the dip was for $6, and the dip itself was only warm and not hot. The meals we got were the Choripollo and the Chimi Birria.

The Choripollo is a very common dish that we like to get to judge any new-to-us Mexican restaurants. It was a solid option, but the part that surprised us was that there were not any tortillas included. We would get this again, but apparently have to order a side of tortillas.

The Chimi Birria is one of their “new plates” and not on the normal menu. I really like this one. I thought the whole meal always really tasty and had good flavors across the cheese sauce, Birria meat, and consommé. Definitely get this one while you can, just in case it doesn’t get added to the regular rotation.

Bonita is in our neighborhood in Bondurant. We have never had a bad dish from them. If you want more of an authentic Mexican food instead of tex-mex, I recommend Bonita.

Being that it was a sunny spring afternoon and Cinco de Mayo, we figured a bike ride and some margaritas were in order. We rode the trail from Ankeny to Bondurant to try a new spot. It's a cute little restaurant tucked in a strip mall—we came in via the back roads on bikes.

The place was half full but weirdly quiet. We joked about the missing mariachi band, and eventually they turned on music, but you could barely hear it. Service was slow, even with it being a holiday, and we watched a group leave after getting ignored. Our waiter eventually brought chips, salsa, and big margaritas (the highlight of the night, honestly).

Sadly, the food didn’t live up. No ceviche, bland chicken, no cilantro on the tacos, and a very plain quesadilla. Not bad, just not great. Drinks were solid though, and our waiter warmed up by the end. Full stomachs, but we left wishing the food matched the vibe we were hoping for.

Completely rude. Horrible service. The burrito that was ordered was not a burrito. Charged more than menu price. Terrible place
