We had my grandson’s wedding rehearsal dinner here. The price was exorbitant. We had 23 people. We had to order $2,700 in food and drinks, plus $500 for a large group, a tip and we were charged $97 for using a credit card to pay. And, the kicker was that the food was horrible! I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. It’s a royal ripoff!! What a way to ruin what should have been a fun occasion!

The worst experience. I ordered curbside to go. I was told my order I'll be ready in about 15 minutes. I arrived 5 minutes after. And had to wait in the parking lot an additional 15 minutes, only for my order to be incorrect.

I drove out to Robins, I got to my destination, and realize I'm missing an item. I have to drive all the way back. 0/10 I would not recommend for curbside or to go orders.

Downtown Cedar Rapids. Its was a fun atmosphere in a beautiful refurbished building! Casual clothing. Many families. We were there on a Saturday night about 7:30pm. Had a 15 minute wait. We sat at the bar and had brandy old-fashioneds.

What a delight - and went for a birthday and birthday person was treated to a dessert of choice from menu with a lighted candle Food was great - their vegetable beef soup was tasty as usual &
my chicken wings appetizer were the best compared to any others. Waitress was polite,
bubbly and efficient. This was Tuesday, October 15 for lunch.

Success in pleasing a group with diverse tastes! This place was actually our second choice after a failed booking over at the Cobble Hill left my 83-year-old mother overwhelmed by noise, dim lighting, inflexibility on seating, and her favorite dish being out of stock. Black Sheep to the rescue!

We were seated with only a minimal wait after arriving without reservations on a busy Saturday night. They won’t take reservations for groups of less than eight, but can accommodate despite the deserved popularity. Parking is free and plentiful after 5 p.m.in the normally problematic downtown area.

The menu is innovative and tasty, though I disagree with some of the assessments in other reviews here. After a delicious Old Fashioned cocktail made with their default Bulleit bourbon, we split a duck fat fries order for the table of four. Yes, large enough to do that. Sorry, but it was just cheese fries, or some sort of Poutine on steroids rather than the gourmet curio I was expecting.

Mom and I wisely went with the Prime Rib, which is big—don’t let the wimpy sounding “10 ounce” moniker trick you into order elsewhere. It was rare as requested, but I really hoped for blood rare. Still delicious and reasonably priced for what it goes for these days. WEEKENDS ONLY!!! The wife loved her meatloaf comfort food, and the “Sheperd’s (sic) Pie” must’ve been named after a guy named Sheperd. Ground beef replaced the purists’ lamb and the presentation was oddly stewlike but was heartily enjoyed.

Great service, historic building, and spacious interior with a brewery area and bar that add visual appeal. This is one nice choice for a special occasion.

What an amazing bar, recommended by locals and turned out to be one of the best experiences.

Bar
Quite large, comfortable and not noisy at all. We sat at the bar, very comfortable and uncrowded. Seated by polite and smiling bar staff.

Staff
Ok These guys and gals are amazing, the service, conversation, jokes and stories made us feel like they were an extension of our group and we were the only people In the bar. They also politely excused them selves to ensure they served all customers in the same way.
We were served by 2-3 servers all of which were friendly and polite young staff who listened to our terrible stories jokes and later even participated in the slightly drunken card tricks.

Drinks
We decided on beer and shots- probably not a great idea and the staff enjoyed coming up with ideas as requested for interesting shots. They advised on different beers even giving a sample when we were unsure.

Food
We had bar food wings and pork belly. Really nice and large portions

Over all. If you are in Cedar Rapids and want a beer this is a must attend I cannot recommend a bar more.

To the staff I would say “awesome, you made our trip and make the bar special. Keep it up!? “

If I could rate the bar separately from the food I would. The bar staff and the drinks were great. Five stars all the way. However, our waiter and the food were not great. He seemed to be actively avoiding us. We had to literally ask if we could order our food after we had been seated at the table for over half an hour. We were there for my son's birthday and friends had brought balloons. The host and bartenders asked whose birthday it was, but the waiter never even mentioned it. Two of us ordered the prime rib and we were very disappointed. It was basically unseasoned, including the au jus. We had to ask for salt, which helped a bit, but it was still not great. I probably won't be back for anything but drinks.

We had a lovely time here for my "Bridal Bash" with my work friends! I had reserved the community table in advance and it was all set up and ready to go for us when I arrived. Our server was the absolute best and knew how to take care of a larger party with ease. He gave great drink and food recommendations which we were all happy with. The drinks were delicious and refreshing and the food, especially the appetizers we ordered to share, hit the spot! And bless them, our server had the bar make a specialty shot based on my drink selection and the kitchen made a delicious dessert for me on the house in honor of our celebration! Definitely the place to go and gather with friends and family! Fantastic atmosphere and service!

The food is ALWAYS good here. Only downfall is it gets very loud when busy. Not a good place to take a business partner out to chat.

The only reason I am writing this review was because of my food, and the fact I spent $26 on a prime rib that wasn’t even edible. It was so tough and hard I couldn’t even eat it. Times are hard these days but I really wanted to treat myself and honestly I was so upset about my prime rib that I couldn’t chew or swallow at all I was darn near tears, but our waiter was having a hard enough night as it was so I didn’t want to complain to him, but it had to be said. If you’re going to charge $26 for a piece of meat make sure you can eat it. Worst prime rib I have ever had and honestly after years of coming to Black Sheep I am not sure I will be returning for food.
