Had a Great time tonight at JW's Pub and Grub. I've only been in Iowa for 2 days and the people are amazing. Great service, food and drinks. AND THE BEST PART IS THE COST!! GREAT PRICES.

I had a very uncomfortable and disappointing experience at JW pub and grub this Saturday around 5:30 PM. I arrived with three friends. We are all African American women, ages 22–31. A younger bartender initially helped us, took our order, and began making our drinks with no issue. Suddenly, an older female bartender rushed over and aggressively demanded to see our IDs. Without greeting us or showing basic courtesy, she examined each ID with clear suspicion and made rude, unnecessary remarks while doing so. She repeatedly implied that our IDs might be fake, stating that she “didn’t want to be fined”. Her tone and behavior were accusatory and disrespectful, despite all IDs being valid. After this interaction, she refused to make eye contact with us, did not smile, and made no effort to provide service. The younger bartender continued assisting us professionally, but the damage was already done. As we walked out, we felt eyes on us, reinforcing how unwelcome we were made to feel. The hostility, assumptions, and public scrutiny we experienced were unnecessary and deeply uncomfortable. No customer should be treated this way
I would not recommend this establishment to people of color unless serious changes are made to how patrons are treated.

I hate to leave a bad review, however, the experience my friends and I encountered at this establishment necessitates such a response. We entered into this bar around 5:30pm on a Saturday night and headed over to the bar for a quick drink. An older woman with brunette hair stepped behind the bar and demanded, emphasis on demanded, our ID’s. As she inspected them, she very loudly and rudely told us that she didn’t believe the authenticity of our ID’s, insinuating that we looked too young and that they were fake. Her demeanor and conduct towards us was extremely uncalled for. As we paid our tab, another man, whom we believe was the owner Jerry, came behind the bar to talk with the older woman and had a conversation about us right in front of us. This made my friends and me extremely uncomfortable and attention was being drawn to us from the rest of the bar unnecessarily. It takes very very little to be nice, even less to be professional.

Me and my 3 friends came here on a Saturday night for a quick drink. Our original bartender took and started making our order, but then another women rushed in and curtly demanded to see our IDs. We immediately provided them of course, but while she scrutinizes each one, she mumbles dirty remarks indicating that she thought they were fakes. For reference, 2 of us are 31 years old, one is 25 and one is 22. We have been told before that we look young for our age, but we have never in our lives been accused of lying about our age. After checking our IDs she said “I have 7 kids, you guys know you’re not 21, and I’m not going to get charged a $1500 fine for serving minors”. We initially thought we she was joking, but she made it clear that she did not respect us and that we were not welcome in the establishment. We drank our drinks, payed and tipped our bartender, and left, all while she continued to rant to her coworkers about us. I am a grown woman, I do not understand why I would be treated like a criminal when, if there was a reason to doubt our ages, she could have easily verified that our IDs were in fact legitimate. I can guess why though, since we were the only African Americans in the whole establishment. She must not be familiar with how we as a race Can present, but nothing justifies her behavior as a human being or as someone in the customer service industry. 0/10 stars. JW Pub and Grub needs to train their workers on how to identify what is counterfeit and what is real, and how to address customers.

Have been to this bar quite a few times never have had any bad experiences until this new bar tender got hired she’s bad quite a bad attitude the last few times we have gone in she is pretty skinny with brown hair. Last night my boyfriend and our friends went outside, his brother just got a new bike and we wanted to hear it so he was riding around the bartender came outside screaming walking around up front causing a massive scene when we realized she was talking to us we told him to quit he quit and went home she had come over screaming at us so we followed her inside and closed out our tabs while we were inside she proceeded to scream at yell at us saying “that’s how coos get called” and a bunch of other stuff. After we had closed our tabs and left we were standing in the parking lot trying to figure out where we were going next when a regular customer proceeded to start screaming at us to leave that we were causing a scene, mind you the so called scene she is referring to us all of us standing by our vehicles talking about where we were going and or doing next when she started screaming the bartender came outside and proceeded to scream at us again belligerently when she started screaming at us we call sat there and said we just trying to figure out what we are doing next she then proceeded to threaten to call the cops because we were causing a scene when none of us were doing anything but talking about a game plan. Had the bartender decided to act like an adult and just come and simply have an adult conversation about him riding his bike none of the screaming would have happened but instead she decided to make a scene by walking outside screaming at us instead of walking up to us and having a simple conversation. I’ve never seen a bartender so disrespectful in my life and not know how to have an adult conversation without accelerating things and causing the scene that ruin a perfectly good night! High recommend not going there until she no longer works there she is ridiculous and if she is adult enough to be a bartender serving alcohol she should know how to have a conversation respectful. Mind you all of us had only had 1-2 drinks!

Passing through and stopped to check out 1 more mid west tenderloin before departing the USA. Great food and the server, cashier, and bartender all wrapped up into 1 person did excellent handling the bar and tending the fryer.
