My wife and I went to Mezcal today for lunch and had an absolutely amazing experience. The isn’t your typical Cedar Rapids Mexican restaurant where they all blend together and none of them stand out, meaning if you e been to one you e been to all of them. It’s not supposed to be. It’s supposed to be different with a heavily Mexican inspired menu. They hit a home run in my book.I would ignore the 1 star reviews about this place and I would like to address some of those. Anyone who says the food had no flavor has somehow managed to destroy their own taste buds somewhere down the line. We ordered the chips and salsa, chicharron, and the car it’s and steak tacos. All had amazing flavor, and were cooked with passion and love. I sincerely enjoyed everything we ordered. I also feel like if you order street style tacos, you should expect street style tacos. This place isn’t Taco Bell. A little grease is a good thing.As for price, you are paying for the experience and the price was more than reasonable for the quality of food and drinks you are getting at this place. The service was amazing too. They weren’t trying to get you in and out like most restaurants you go to do. I felt that you were welcome to take your time and enjoy the food you ordered. And the fact that the restaurant takes the time to respond to even the negative reviews and does so in a polite and professional way, shows me that they truly care about their product. Keep up the great work! My wife and I will definitely be back!

The steak in my steak tacos was tender. The Fried Brussel Sprouts were uniquely seasoned. The Mezcal Classic margarita has a delicious smoky flavor. The chips were light and crispy, fresh. However.The menu is very limited. The tortillas for my steak tacos were cold, fell apart, and had a weird texture. The guacamole had no depth of flavor -- unless you ate a fresh jalepeno slice it just tasted like an avocado -- but the avocados were fresh. The server wasn't very efficient and it took a while to get a beverage even though the restaurant wasn't busy. The space doesn't have a comfortable vibe.

I went here one night wasting some time, decided to get a couple of tacos. The meat was gristly (had to spit out quite a few pieces) and the corn tortillas fell apart. Not impressed. I don't think I will return.

This place is wonderful! My daughter and I were running a little late and showed up 30 min before closing and were still treated very well! I have food allergies and the owner and chef Joe was absolutely wonderful in helping me out by preparing my food without soy. The atmosphere is awesome and the food is incredible! I had shrimp tacos and the shrimp was fresh and grilled perfectly. The potatoes for a side (I can’t remember the Mexican name for them ) were soooo awesome and unique! We will be back! 5stars!!!!!

My wife and I went to Mezcal tonight for the first time. We've had tapas elsewhere, and really like them. We really enjoyed going to Mezcal! It's a step above your regular Mexican restaurant... They are giving things a Spanish flair, and there is generally higher level of quality than most Mexican restaurants. Our server was amazing, very attentive, and knowledgeable. The food was excellent, and we tried the margarita, leche flan old fashioned, and the spicy sunset. All were wonderful. They have tequila flights, which must be worth trying (not tonight). Lots of different tequilas! We had the jumbo garlic shrimp tapas, which were so good! My wife had the steak tacos, and I did the paella. Both were excellent, and we have plenty of leftovers. The desserts are amazing too! Highly recommended!

Gluten free heaven! I eat soft corn tortillas because I HAVE to... The blue corn ones here are aMAZing! (Just as good as ones I got in San Antonio). Steak taco was delish, grilled shrimp tapas was so good. This place is so yummy and the service was fabulous.

This was our first time to Mezcal and safe to say we will be back frequently! Everything from the aesthetic of the restaurant down to the service and food was incredible. My girlfriend and I came for lunch and had chips and salsa and queso for appetizers and really enjoyed the salsa it is different than any other Mexican restaurants salsa which was refreshing. The queso was great too. My girlfriend had the mix and match mini street tacos which came with one carnitas, one chicken, and one steak taco with rice and all three meats were perfectly cooked and very well seasoned. I myself had the fried chicken tacos with chipotle slaw on flour tortillas and it was fantastic to say the least the slaw paired perfectly with the fried chicken thighs. I had the street corn for my side and I didn’t want it to end. I think our servers name was Paisley? She was by herself with a busy lunch rush and she did a fantastic job.

Loved the food. My husband ordered the carnitas and steak tacos and the meat was super juicy. I ordered the hanger steak and the meat was super juicy and full of flavor and then the side of street corn was amazing as well. Definitely would come back again(Sorry for the half eaten food, it was so good)?
