If you haven't stopped in to Pita'z Mediterranean and American Cuisine (Center Point Rd, Hiawatha) you're truly missing out. My husband and I stopped in again for dinner, and the gentleman behind the counter met us with warm cordiality. We're repeat offenders here, so we got our usuals, shish tawook with baby ganoush and chips (below) and gyro with hummus and chips, and a side of falafel. We did notice how friendly and knowledgeable he was for the first timers who came in behind us. The food is nothing short of exquisite. Everything we've had on the menu has such a beautiful blend of spices and garlic that if you take a date there and that person doesn't want to suck face with you at the end of the night, that person is not the one. This is the food that helps you find true love. The chicken was juicy and packed with flavor, paired with that addictive creamy garlic sauce and perfectly fluffy chewy pita bread. And the baba ganoush, oh that smoky goodness. The falafel was delightfully fluffy on the inside, and crispy enough on the outside that it didn't fall apart when you bit into it. My husband really enjoyed his gyro platter, but isn't as wordy as I am, but I did see his eyes roll back at least twice, so it must be fabulous. Nonetheless, please please stop in to this criminally overlooked gem.

I almost never review anything but this place is BOMB! Me and my fiancé were visiting from Tampa and happened upon this place in Newbo Market. The lady at the counter was so kind and obliging that we decided to give it a try, and boy was that the right move! Favor was out of this world, portions were worth the price and the baklava was chefs kiss! Listen, if you have an opportunity to check this place out, DO IT!
Sincerely a Big Black man visiting Iowa!

Every bite from our lunch at Pita'z was hearty, savory, and memorable. Stopping by Newbo for the first time for a quick bite between events, we enjoyed a bright chicken shawarma wrap; salty, airy fried pita chips with buttery-smooth hummus; and fantastic, garlicky thick-cut fries. Big yum. Super easy.

It's been a week since we returned from Iowa and I'm still thinking about how good our meal was — and we only went on a whim; the place was recommended to us by students working at the Hotel at Kirkwood — together these two things moved me to write a quick review in gratitude and the hope that fellow out-of-staters might enjoy a similar experience.

Our only regret about ordering from Pita'z? That we didn't go twice.

They advertise gyros with rice. Unfortunately it's rice pilaf which has gluten so we couldn't eat half our lunch. But we told the guy running the place and he made a new lunch for me complimentary. Awesome service and attitude ??. So my only suggestion is to advertise rice pilaf instead of calling it plain rice. Portions were very generous.

Dietary restrictions: Ask about gluten when ordering.

I don't know if it is because I haven't had a really good shawarma or a respectable portion of gyro meat since i moved to BFE Wisconsin from Kansas City, but the gyro shawarma pita was absolutely amazing.... like "I can't eat more" but finished it anyway! I appreciate the hearty serving of gyro meat they gave, and it wasn't too thin to where the cooking left it dried out.The house made pita chips weren't too greasy, and the hummus was tasy!Oh! I, of course, had to get baklava... but didn't have the willpower to wait till I got home to warm it up a bit. Will definitely come back next time I'm in town!

Wheelchair accessibility: This is part of the Newbo city market. Parking is scarse but accessible.

We came in to Pita'z for the first time after being given the recommendation by the guys at Dave Wright Subaru. We had the Gyro Pitas and they were incredible. The portions were huge, so we got a second meal from them. I got the Hummus as a side. It was by far the best hummus I have eaten, made only better with your delicious Pita Chips. Thanks for the great meal! We will be back when we come back in town.

Their Gyro Pita is so flavorful! It has a lot of meat, and veggies and is very big and fulfilling! Must try.

A friend recommend the Center Point location but they are closed on Sunday’s. I realized they have a Newbo Market location as well, so we stopped to pick up lunch on the way home from church. It was my first time ordering and they were very helpful! Our food was SO good. We have found our new favorite gyro restaurant in town. Absolutely delicious and made fresh food!! Get the entrée when you order. It’s so much food we have plenty for two meals.
