Went there last week. Wonderful tacos. I would recommend the chips and salsa/guac/queso appetizer. A great sampling of the different tastes. It's a little pricey, but we will be back.
If you are looking for something unique and fun, Taco Gato is a fabulous choice.
Their menu is full of playful recipes that all sound delicious. They have a wide selection of tequilas.
Overall, dining was a pleasant experience, but don't go in looking for a super-traditional Mexican meal.

We got a pitcher of margaritas. Was very good. Our meals and our appetizers were really salty. I was able to eat mine and we ate most of the appetizer but my partner couldn't eat much of hers and I tasted it and don't know why a salad should be that salty. Waitress took two dollars off... Probably wont go back except for drinks maybe.

Tried Taco Gato through DoorDash for the first time on a whim. Blown away. The tacos are so good! And don’t let the Bento box fool you…it’s easily enough sides for 2 or 3 meals unless you’re super hungry. I got the 5 sides because I was curious about different dishes- it will probably take me a week to get through them all. The salad…even the salad was amazing. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Having lived in Texas for a decade, I've had a lot of Mexican food in my life, and Taco Gato served perhaps the best Mexican food I've ever tasted--including that which I've had in Mexico! And the service provided by the lovely Adayah and Moriah was warm and professional too! If I lived in Cedar Rapids, I'd become a regular! Anyway, I can't recommend this place enough. Please go and try it yourself!

This was the first time I’ve eaten at a Mexican restaurant, especially at this price range, and thought “wow I wish I could add salt and pepper to this.” This would be the restaurant for you if you like the idea of eating at a Mexican restaurant but only want the hint of Mexican flavors. I don’t mind Mexican fusion. I actually welcome it with open arms, but this just missed the mark for me. For a place called “taco gato” the taco options were underwhelming. The verde michelada was more so a jalapeño agua fresca. I think this place is fine, but you could find better Mexican food down the street in any direction.
Maybe I’ve gone on a bad day. But unfortunately, I don’t feel inclined to go again.
