The BEST coffee shop in the area! They have a fun variety of coffee, teas, and other fun drinks! The atmosphere is extremely welcoming and the staff is so helpful! I love looking through the products being sold that showcase the local talent. We make a point to go to Backgrounds every time we’re in Corning visiting family! Cannot recommend enough!!

Great little place for your favorite cup of coffee,a snack and some conversation. Always a surprise to see the arawy of things to browse through.

We go to Backgrounds EVERY time we're in Corning! The littles get an Italian soda (not too sweet!) and the rest of us try something different every time because there are SO MANY choices! We love shopping the locally sourced gifts, too. Favorites: iced mocha with English toffee; hot mocha with marshmallow; ANY soda; many books and a wonderful lavender bar soap!

This is the only local coffee shop I will go to! I get their amazing, fresh roasted beans for my at home coffee. They even grind them for me. They have several options like coffee, Alani Nu specialty drinks, espresso, soda, slushies, and delicious teas!

You can also shop here for local honey, cleaning products, candles, pecans, skincare, and more. They can make just about anything you can think up.

Also, if you want to get your hair or nails done then the salon is connected as well! This is a place where the baristas know you by name and feel like a friend. They have wifi so you can work remotely with your favorite drink or meal. I love this place!

On our first visit to Corning Iowa we stopped at Background's Coffee bar for coffee and lunch. Background's was a real treat. They have great coffee, smoothies and sandwiches. I had a strawberry, mango smoothie and my wife had a Carmel coffee, fantastic! Hard to choose from all their smoothies, teas and coffees. We loved their sandwiches for lunch, tasted wonderful. I had a Cuban and my wife had a Monte Cristo. Their staff couldn't be beat, friendly and knowledgeable. They use the back of the room to feature local gift items. We had to get a beautiful coffee mug and some local honey. If we lived anywhere near Corning, we would be regulars.

I really enjoy the quick service and baristas that really know their craft and menu! My favorite thing to do is to grab a drink and work on my computer and they’re calm, but energetic atmosphere!

We decided to stop here while on a trip enjoying the lake nearby. I can not recommend this shop enough. Affordable, kind, amazing customer service, great tasting coffee, and adorable boutique portion. We will definitely be back.

We recently moved to corning and were looking for a place to grab a coffee and luckily found this place!! We highly recommend trying this place if you haven't yet, they will not disappoint. I have tried several and all are amazing!!
