I've had bbq from San Antonio and Kansas City, and never would I have imagined that I would find a restaurant in Iowa that could rival the best bbq in those cities. I live an hour and a half away, but that won't stop me from making the drive for their food again. Only a Karen would leave the Old Armory a negative review.

The food and the customer service was AMAZING!!! Fast service and very polite employees! The meat was tender and very flavorful! The sides we got were potato salad, Mac and cheese, sweet potato tots and bacon green beans and they all, including the cornbread, were so delicious!!! I'm definitely going back there. We also bought a shirt because it looked sexy on the hubs, and we wanted to support and advertise for their business because they totally deserve it!!!

This is what American Cuisine should be. This is some of the best barbecue this side of the Mississippi. The prime rib I had was so smoky and melted in my mouth. Honestly a must have dining experience with tons of charm and character.

Partner got a Cuban and Sweet Potato Tots, I got a Brisket Sandwich and Wedges. We both got the corn muffin. 10/10 juicy meat, I’d come back here again when I visit Dunnings Spring again. My partner licked his plate clean and he’s PICKY! Very chill in there it felt more casual.
Baked beans and coleslaw were excellent. Ribs were super dry, couldn’t get them down with sauce.

If you are looking for Good Food in Decorah Iowa right now I would highly suggest Old Armory BBQ!
It is in an interesting building (next to a laundromat), but don't let that deter you. It has indoor seating with a couple of tables out front. I saw what looked like to be a loyal take out clientele.
Most importantly the food is delicious! I had smoked chicken, green beans, seasoned veges and a corn muffin! How nice to have such good veges as an option other than fries. My partner had baby back ribs. They were meaty and cooked to perfection. Did I tell you they smoke their meats and they had a wonderful selection of house made barbecue sauces.? My favorite was a sweet sauce with peaches.
Everyone there was efficient at their jobs and super nice.
