I ordered a sandwich at this place, and noticed there was money sitting on the counter where they make the food. No thanks.

My girlfriend and I got the same sandwich and when we got off our plane 4 hours later were both suffering from food poisoning. It lasted for about 36 hours for both of us.

I travel a great deal. I usually have very little funds but decided to check this place out. I stopped here on my way to the plane and I am not disappointed. Debating between sandwich or pizza; I asked for an opinion...again, I am not disappointed. I chose the option suggested for my hunger.Pizza. 12" x 4" of great pizza. The crust was thin, flaky, but not overdone. I like a lot of sauce; and even though I would've liked a lot more, there was enough and didn't seem generic. I chose sausage and red onion, add mushrooms. Oh my goodness!! Expectations surpassed. The sausage had such an explosion of actual flavor...not generic ground. Red onion were perfectly done. The mushrooms? O yea! Cheeeeeeese u ask. Ha! It was a fantastical and beautimiss pizzaI cannot speak for others opinion of this place. The food was excellent, but the two ladies behind the counter were even better.

I tend to order a Cuban sandwich everywhere I travel in search of the "best". I even had them from the Miami area, so imagine my surprise when I experienced an incredible Cuban sandwich from the Des Moines, Iowa airport! Perhaps the stars were all aligned that day, but the sandwich was hot with a perfect crunch. The pork was almost as thick as a porkchop (which is not turkey from another review I read and can be a light pink which is totally fine for pork) and then of course the ham, melted Swiss, pickles and special mustard sauce. It was so juicy and tender that I went through a bundle of napkins. With tons of Cubans I've eaten over my many travels, this honestly was one of the best, perhaps "the" best thus far!The service was a little bit slow because the one girl was training the other girl, but that is totally understandable. The place was clean and tidy. My only complaint is that I will never be able to eat another one again unless I travel through an airport who has an Arugla & Rye.I bragged about this sandwich so much to my husband I was thinking of surprising him one weekend and using my frequent fliers miles to just fly us to Des Moines for the afternoon to get lunch! ?

Sandwich was decent, but the staff refuses to look at you and seems annoyed that you have interrupted their day. It’s no wonder this place is empty and the bar next door is packed.

Horrible food, orders a chicken sandwich and it tastes stale and microwaved. Had to throw it. Hardly any choices though at DSM airport.

They make me a flatbread once or twice a week. It's always nice!

Had to wait if 15 to place an order then they took another 15 minutes to start making my sandwich because they only had one person doing everything. If you’re in a hurry this is not the place for you. This place needs proper staffing bad. Cuban sandwich was horrible bread was way over toasted. But into a tough piece of turkey pulled it out it was half pink and half burnt. Worst sandwich I’ve ever had.

It's unbelievable that you can find something so good and not too expensive at the airport. I had Buffalo Chicken Flat Bread today and let me tell you, I haven't had something this good in a long time. I am pleasantly surprised and wish you much success and satisfied customers!

Wow, where do I even begin. The service wasn't too terrible I guess, but nothing to get excited about. Employees didn't really care about getting your order correct thats for sure. I got the Cuban. It was tiny and bland. It didn't come with any of the advertised sauces on it and honestly just seemed like something frozen and reheated. Was it edible? Sure. Enjoyable? Not in the slightest. I just ate it because I had to, but for almost $12 you'd expect it to be somewhat appetizing. Instead it was just some bland trash that was an actual chore to eat. If you want to waste money and leave dissatisfied, Arrugula & Rye can help you with that. Never again.

Service was less than stellar and food was inedible. Had one bite of my chicken sandwich and had to throw the rest away.My take-and-go sandwich from a kiosk the last time I was at the airport was much better.

As some folks have commented, there's not a lot of food choices at DSM, either before or after Security. Arugula & Rye is next to and connected with a more formal bar and restaurant area with waiter service. This place is a walk up to the counter model that features sandwiches, salads, and flatbreads, along with beer and wine.I came in last week with a Hyvee sandwich (purchased across the street before I came to the airport) looking for a beer. A 12 ounce can set my back almost $11 (out of the cooler). I had to pinch a glass as it wasn't offered to me. Past that, I did enjoy sitting by the window (with a nice view of the tarmac), finishing my Lunch, and killing time before my Southwest flight started to board.

The veggie sandwich I got was not great. And it made me feel sick after.
