I like the feel of it. Don't go there expecting something like other ice cream shops. They only have one size but that's all you need. The ice cream is very good and hand made and the service is awesome. I've only been there a couple times but the man at the window recognized me. If you are in the area it is worth a stop.

Tried to go here on our way back to Minnesota. It apparently opened at 1p; we got there at 1:30, wandered around the run-down building looking for the ice cream shop (no sign). We finally found it, and there was a closed sign with a hand written note saying they were sold out. Wish we hadn't wasted the extra thirty minutes driving to/from downtown Des Moines. There isn't even a number to call to doublecheck if they're open.

I couldn't wait to try this place as it was always closed because it was sold out. I figured it must be amazing. Well.. my ice cream was scooped out of ziplock containers and was visibly icy/freezer burnt. I have a great appreciation for small batch ice cream shops but this defeated all expectations I had. If you're going to make small batches and charge $5 and always be sold out.... shouldn't it be the freshest ice cream ever? I was rooting for them but they let me down.

This place came highly recommended, and while I think the ice cream was novel and tasty, my experience was less than great. I had a cup of brown butter apple strudel ice cream, which I enjoyed a lot! The ice cream was undoubtedly well-made, and clearly came from a small batch because it was scooped from a Tupperware container and served to me through a walk-up window. However, it was a little expensive ($5) and had nowhere to sit/use the restroom. If that were all, I'd give the place 4 stars, but the person who served me (the owner I think?) honestly acted like I had inconvenienced him by patronizing his business!

Delicious ice cream, but I can't get over the terrible smell that comes out the window!

Delightful. My kids chose Lucky Charms, which tasted just like the cereal. I got lemo-cherry tart. It had cherry pie bits in a lemon ice cream. Would definitely recommend, will stop by again next time we're in town.

I wanted to love it but none of the flavors of a smores came through at all. It just wasn't the best I've had for sure and I threw half of it away. Will have to try other flavors and see if they change my mind.

Finally had the chance to go the Black Cat ice cream today and man it didn't disappoint. I got the Red Velvet Oreo and oh my... extremely creamy ice cream with huge Oreo/red velvet pieces. I will now be making this a ritual trip every Saturday this summer

Good bang for the buck. A lot of ice cream for $5. Unique flavors and the staff was nice with the sampling. I got some peanut butter Chex mix type ice cream. It was good. Black cat is worth checking out.

The texture was really gummy on all three flavors we tried. Flavor was good. Service was weirdly slow. Two people were behind the counter, and one guy seemed to be doing all of the work

I had never been, but had seen them on Facebook. My wife needed (NEEDED) ice cream, so I thought it was a good excuse to check out a local place. I can't believe I had never been! I'm sure it's been said, but it's a window on the side of the GasLamp. I had a chocolate with ghost pepper ice cream. It was unique and delicious. My wife had a chocolate chip cookie or something. She didn't share a lot of it with me, it was that good. And they have vegan options! Totally awesome. Definitely recommend.

Fantastic old timey ice cream with non-dairy options, great for those of us with asthma! I intended on taking pictures but the ice cream didn't survive that long. This is not your traditional sit down ice cream parlor it's literally a window that you walk up to then place your order. My peanut butter loving husband and son both murdered the Peanut Butter puppy chow, I personally would recommend the Vegan Key lime.

The best ice cream I've ever had in my life. Ever. Very rich.
