My husband and I love stopping by Cooney’s on our date nights to enjoy their (free!) darts and good drinks. The bartender is always very professional and friendly and the atmosphere is that of a nice Irish pub/ elevated dive. The setup inside with the dart lane and other cozy seating is nice for a date night. This is easily our favorite bar in the Urbandale area and when you’re there, you can sense there are a lot of regulars and it is a well-loved staple on Beaver!
I love the dark, Irish pub feel. Felt like I was back in the UK. There was only a single bartender, but he seemed to get the drinks out quickly. You order at the counter, and it's cash only. There's an ATM available in case you're not carrying any. Luckily, our friend had some cash. Seems like it's a much-loved neighborhood dive! Will remember to bring cash next time.
