Excellent food. You will not be disappointed with the quality and taste of the food. The service is also top tier!

The food was good but not great. The service was not good at all — particularly given that the restaurant was not full at all. Our server was either disengaged or distracted to the point that he forgot to take our entree order, forgot what I was drinking, and did not offer me a second beer. The local fine dining market is far too competitive for a restaurant to survive long with such poor service.

This is an exceptional restaurant. We had the fixed menu for two. Food and service were flawless.

HoQ had a very intimate setting that allows for conversation while enjoying some delicious food. We had the cheese sampler appetizer and the steak dinners which were amazing and cooked to perfection.

Went at 6pm on a Saturday during DSM Restaurant Week 2025 for their prix fixe menu. I hadn't been here before but had heard great things. Unfortunately I was really underwhelmed with the food. The presentation was ok, flavor was bland, veggies were undercooked, and dessert was like wet cat food. I would go to a lot of other restaurants in DSM before I went back here, especially for the price. Cocktails were tasty, but nothing too special.

Drinks were hot, entrees were not. Very pricey and I was expecting better. Service was inattentive and slow. Would not eat here. Risotto was hot and tasty.

I will dream about the mixed vegetable sides with homemade steak sauce and the tenderloin. It was the most flavorful meal I've had this year. Ambiance was boring. We went at 8pm on Saturday mid July and it was dead. Only 2 other tables full. Service was excellent tho. But the risotto was crunchy and undercooked. I don't really like risotto when it's cooked to perfection, so no big deal for me but disappointing nonetheless. Delicious Smokey Paloma. Nice touch of homemade naan and amuse bouche.

This restaurant was not what we were expecting for a $50 per person hold for a reservation. It was a bit grungy in the entry, some of the tablecloths looked like they'd been washed and wadded up before being put on the tables. The appetizer portions were small. The food was good but not outstanding (pierogis were very good, bison burger was good, fries were meh, bread pudding was small, too moist, too spongy and light... if you're expecting New Orleans style, don't order it). For $160 for two, the bathroom should smell ok and not be dated, and the food should be excellent. It definitely wasn't crowded and the parking was cheap and easy.

We had the meal for two option. Reasonably priced, fresh ingredients. Salmon was cooked just right but portion size was pretty small. Pork schnitzel was very good with large portion. Great Naan appetizer and Bread pudding for dessert.

My husband and I live out of state but are originally from Iowa. When we are back in Iowa we always make a point to eat at Hoq. The food quality, attention to detail, staff, and ambience is top notch. We are quick to recommend Hoq to everyone.

HoQ is the place to go if you are looking for a dining experience that values quality food grown in Iowa. With a mission to serve the best of local foods prepared in sustainable ways, the story of HoQ led us to their restaurant. The drinks are delicious and so is the food. Well priced, seasonal options, appropriate portions, and a comfortable dining atmosphere. Whether it's a date night, dinner with friends, or for a special event, HoQ will not disappoint.

I wish I would have taken more photos but the food was so good our family couldn’t think to take photos. My mom wanted to eat at HoQ Resturant for her 40th wedding anniversary and wanted the whole family with them to celebrate. Little back story my mom sells vegetables to the owner that he uses in his dishes. 90% or more of the ingredients are locally sourced in Iowa. Farm to table concept. We started withh naan bread the brought out and a little bit of I think pasta with beets. What ever it was it was goos. Then we ordered several different appetizers. Burnt carrots, Hummus and some kind of bread, chicken skewers, and pierogies. For meal we got different things. Several had the bison burger and fries, 2 had the 5 oz steak with risotto. Mom and I had the Mediterranean bowl with falafel add tandoori chicken. That is the only thing I got a photo of of course after I started to eat. The accommodated our little girls with grilled cheese and fries and a side of chicken. Finished off our meal with. Cake my sister made ( our grandma’s recipe) Minnesota chocolate cake with fudge icing. And the restaurant brought out several scoops of vanilla ice cream with shortbread cookies. All the food was so good everyone at the table was quiet including my dad. If you know my dad you know that is not a common thing for him not to be taking and eating. I have posted a photo of my food and a photo of my parents with their cake. And yes my mom is wearing her original wedding dress she wore 40 years ago when she married my dad. Thank you again HoQ for the amazing dining experience and for letting us have a private room to celebrate our parents!

We enjoyed our meal at HoQ. However, we felt like it may not have been worth the price. Everything was good but nothing was to die for.

Great and unique dining experience. I enjoy the farm to table aspect of the restaurant. The service was great. Our server was warm and responsive. I would recommend HOQ to anyone who would like a nice quality dining experience.

First of all, the service was impeccable! The staff were very nice and accomadating . I really enjoyed the steak and shrimp dish and the butter squash bisque was excellent. Also, the black walnut manhattan was very tasty, just a little on the sweet side; enjoyable though.
