Unique menu with a vibrant bustling atmosphere in the dining area. The sushi was good but the real reason to make the trip is the French menu. Our server was very knowledgeable and helped us adjust menu items to be gluten free.
This place is truly a gem. It is a rarity to find sushi this good in the US, nonetheless Des Moines. The bluefin toro (fatty tuna) is a true delicacy and is not easy to find even in much larger metros. It was delicious- we did both the nigiri and sashimi. The king salmon nigiri was also very tasty. It had a smoky flavor that was delicious. We also really enjoyed the fluke nigiri. The French onion soup was good, as was the sushi roll we had. The one “miss” was the mussels,...
I hope you know what a gem you have, Des Moines! I had spicy tuna with lemon glaze and a yellow fin nigiri. It was all phenomenal! I sat at the bar, so had a nice show and chat with the chefs. Chef Nick treated me to some Japanese Wagyu and firefly squid. Simply exquisite! The service was unbeatable. A meal of this quality would have been twice as much in bigger cities. Watch this restaurant and this chef. I sense a James Beard coming. Don’t sleep on Masao!!!
