The place hasn't changed at all on the inside (carpet, chairs, etc). We had a family of 8 for birthdays made reservations for seating and when we got there they had no idea of such reservations for a bigger table of 8. They wrapped our to-go pizzas in foil instead of boxing it up which was weird. No more roller skates, or happy cheerful honks like I remember when I was a kid. The arcade is the same machine and the same prizes one of them was out of service no surprise. We are from out of town and when we found out that there was a Happy Joe's in Dubuque, we had to eat here. We have so many childhood memories of this place. Everything was better than we remembered. The pizza was the best pizza we have eaten. The waitress was great! She helped us with ordering and she made us up a Smores ice cream sundea which was delicious. She boxed our pizza up so it will fit in our hotel frig. We will be eating Herr again the next time we are in Dubuque.

For me, this was a great trip down memory lane. Two decades later, the original Happy Joe specialty (Canadian bacon and sauerkraut) is still a favorite pizza for me. Finished off my meal with a delightful sundae. Some trips down memory lane don't live up to the memory. Happily, this one did.

Food was good but whether it's worth the price is debatable. Happy Joe's taco pizza is excellent and far better than any other pizza places often pathetic attempt at it.Although the atmosphere isn't bad the place looks as if it hasn't been remodeled since opening.

We used to live in DBQ and when our kids were young, taco pizza takeout often served as our date night after we put them to bed. So, when we visit town, we often get a taco supreme if we can. We happened to hit family night so we got a deal a large pizza and drinks for $28. But a mistake was made. We got the wrong pizza. Accidents happen. This is a master class on what to do. They immediately offered that we could keep the wrong pizza for free, quickly made our taco supreme and apologized for the mistake. The service was stellar. You will have birthday celebrations with horns and singing when you go.

This is the place. I remember watching pizza being made in the window & being so scared of anyone announcing my birthday & that dang horn being brought out when I was a kid. But, man. The pizza.
