When we went there, they had a biscuits and gravy special. The price was good but I couldn't help thinking it might be too good to be true. Unfortunately, I was right. The biscuits were the most peculiar I've ever had. It was as if they were the leftover biscuits from each day of the previous week and steamed to be reheated. And the gravy was absolutely horrific. Gritty, over floured, and under seasoned. I'm guessing it was made from a powdered mix or a can. That alone would be bad enough. But I've had canned sausage gravy that was at least edible (Casey's.) The stuff they served at Riverside was like it was cut with flour to stretch it further. I tried adding hot sauce, salt and pepper, and still had a difficult time choking down the gravy and (unseasoned) potatoes. I gave up on trying to ingest the rubber biscuits after trying a small portion of each one to see if there was at least something I could eat. By the way, what little bits of sausage that were in the gravy were flavorless and had the texture of being reconstituted. My wife got the breakfast sandwich because, how can you go wrong with egg, sausage, and an English muffin?Turns out you can go very wrong. The egg was over cooked and not even evenly scrambled. She had to cut off the crispy edges.Admittedly, we should have walked out after the first bite or two. But we were hungry with limited options while traveling. When the bill was brought to the table (which was the only time the waitress came after bringing the food) I told her how bad it was. "Did you want something else" was her only response (she obviously wasn't surprised.) When another lady took payment, I shared how bad our experience had been. Either she doesn't speak much English, or she was so tired of hearing complaints, she was non responsive.Lesson learned. If we're ever in Fairfield again, we'll definitely go elsewhere.

Excellent old style diner. Had breakfast, eggs were cooked just right. Waitresses are friendly. Coffee is good, and refills appear without asking for them. Coffee is in real mugs, not Styrofoam. Restrooms are neat and well stocked. Honestly, if I lived in Fairfield, I would eat here at least once a week and be happy.
