Rolling Wok Asian Cuisine & Pho

Wife and I recently moved to the Urbandale/Grimes area. Was looking for a new local place to try and we stumbled upon Rolling Wok in Grimes. To be completely honest, our first order wasn't really up to par and we assumed there was maybe somebody new in the kitchen. I reached out on Facebook to explain that the food was not prepared as expected. The staff member I spoke to was responsive and respectful regarding the order. They offered a gift card for another opportunity to make things right and give them another try. My wife and I ended up getting takeout again last night and the food was exceptional! A complete 180 from our first visit and I don't think we would have ever returned given our first experience. Major props to the business for taking care of their customers. After our meal last night, we will definitely be going back!

Don’t recall how or why we ended up here but WOW! Food was SO GOOD! Prices were fair. The lady working there was SUPER nice. And did I mention the food AMAZING!?!

We ordered delivery last night. I thoroughly enjoyed the egg rolls and angry stir fry with shrimp. Fresh vegetables and plenty of plump shrimp cooked perfectly with some heat. I ordered level 3. My husband had wings and fried rice. Our least favorite was the crab Rangoon, which were thick and tough. I’ll probably try a noodle dish next time as that’s what they feature (but I had had spaghetti the night before). It was around $60 before taxes and tip.

This was honestly my first pho experience and I cannot wait to come back again. The service is very friendly and prompt. The food is flavorful and you are provided chili oil if you want a little more spice. This place is a gem.

We are regulars one every week or two for lunch. Mae pretty much has our order memorized. Getting to select the heat level let's us customize or meals. They have great crab rangoons and the hot and sour soup is great!

Best pho I’ve had in Grimes, no question. The broth was so flavorful, the veggies were fresh, and the egg rolls were perfectly crispy with a great sweet sauce. Service was friendly and quick. I’ll definitely be back.

Good sized portion, mine was lunch size and I had enough for 3 meals. The only issue was too much oil and seasoning. Fried rice should only have a hint of the seasoning, not drenched in it and the oil. Otherwise, the service was very good and the restaurant is very clean. From the picture you can see how dark it was from over seasoning. Back off a bit and this would have gotten 5 stars.

-10 stars if I could. I placed an order for pick up to be ready between 5:30-5:40. I arrived at 5:40 and was told my order would be 20-25 minutes. I requested to cancel the order and the staff said they couldn’t due to it being ordered through Door Dash. (Your order online platform mind you).
They said they would start making the food and after waiting 35 minutes in store, they said Door Dash showed the order cancel request. I’ve wasted a hour of my time for no food.
$60 for 2 Chinese dinners never received. Find a place that actually delivers on their food in a reasonable time

**In response to the owners, you have misunderstood the initial complaint. Your restaurant had 3 tables when I walked in (2 of which already had their food). I walked in at 5:40 which was the end of my quoted window via Door Dash, and you informed me my food hadn’t even been started and it would be all of 20-25 minutes. Due to this delay, I wanted to cancel the order immediately.
I placed my order ahead of time as a goal to pick up a dinner, take it to my home 15 minutes away to enjoy a good meal with my family before having to drive that evening another 2 hours. You telling me I was going to have to wait inside for another 25 minutes when I already had a long night ahead was not ideal and you had no way of assisting me to cancel my order. I simply wanted to leave and find an alternative (and now quick) option for food. I waited until 6:05 only for you to come out and say the order showed as canceled (which I told your employee I had attempted to cancel but because Door Dash said the order wouldn’t be refunded, I did not want to proceed with the cancellation and waste the $60 that had been spent) and I would not be receiving food.
Our family supports local restaurants weekly. By reading your responses to other “negative” reviews, your business appears to take the approach to be snarky to anyone who comments about bland flavors or poor service. I’m sure you’ll leave another lovely remark, but nonetheless, we will not be recommending your “family” business to friends or plan to ever return. Plenty of other good local Asian cuisines in the metro. Hell, maybe I’ll even grab some of that good old chain restaurant food you recommended we try.
