Burger was awesome, I mean really good. Service was lacking, very polite, but spent to much time chatting with bartender. He spent too much time doing nothing. Got time to lean got time to clean. Put the phone down and take a look around.

What a great hamburger restaurant! The BALT hamburger was very tasty and the sweet potato fries melt in your mouth! They were amazing! We felt pampered by our server and also the owner was pleasingly friendly, making sure we had a pleasant experience. Oh, and the music!! Nice rock and roll!! What a great find!!

Excellent service, food, and atmosphere! Everything was fantastic- from the margaritas to the burgers. Wonderful outdoor seating on the ped mall. Fast and friendly service- our waiter checked back many times and the owner/cook even came out to check on our food and our visit. The BLAT burger was outstanding! We definitely will be back!

Lucas is arguably the best bartender in downtown IC. Joe is also arguably the most hospitable owner of a restaurant or bar in Iowa City. Check out their rotating/seasonal cocktail menu, it’s fantastic.

I went into burger haul with anticipation because I heard great things about this place and i was so impressed it led me to write a review. Lucas the bartender was attentive, laid back and so welcoming. The inside bar is historic and beautiful and far from your everyday modern walk in watering hole. Then I met Joe. Joe owns and operates this place. He cooked my burger and fries and brought it out to me and talked to me about the food, his restaurant and we talked about a handful of topics. He was easy to talk to and so passionate about life in general. He was just generally uplifting. As he began to get more orders he went to the kitchen and even though he was busy i noticed him bringing food out to tables, talking with each guest and giving off the same comradery he gave me. The burger I got was a smash burger and im not really sure when smash burgers became the norm (maybe 5 or 6 years ago?) but some are just thin pathetic pattys. These pattys were thick for a smash burger and was quality beef. I was beyond happy with my experience from bartender, to owner\\chef to atmosphere and food. 5 out of 5 stars

The cheeseburgers and fries, as well as the onion rings were fresh and delicious! The decor could use an upgrade, but the service and the food made up for It. The owner named Joe came out and asked how everything was, which I thought was pretty cool since he made the burgers himself and was very sincere and friendly. I will definitely be going back next time o visit my son at the university of Iowa.
