Iowa City is a university city and we got that feeling downtown. Everyone is in their 20s! ?? However, we were greeted as friends and sat down to some local beer. After appetizers (crab cake are great!), I had a NY cut steak and she had a steak salad. My steak was perfect and juicy. A real treat. The steak in the salad was tough and not really edible. I’d avoid that salad. But the rest is great. Thanks for having us! ?”

We love visiting The Webster. They have great cocktails, amazing food, and great service, (rated 4 stars on service due to our last server, it’s usually great). We wish there were some sweeter wines on the menu by the glass instead of all dry options. My absolute favorite dish I’ve had at The Webster is their summer Mafalde. Overall, this is a great date spot, night out with friends, or place to celebrate!

Parking: Plan to arrive early as The Webster has a 15 min grace period on reservations. This will allow enough time to find a parking spot on the street or in a parking garage. Some evenings, after 6pm, parking will be free depending on the street you park on.”

“It’s an ok college type bar with a full menu of drinks and bar food. The simple bar food is adequate, but nothing special. The staff tries to do their best to keep you happy, though. There are many other better places downtown. All our food came out cold. Cheese curds were below average, and we aren’t even picky.

Full disclosure I usually make my own and they rock too. I had the The Wedgetable Garden with Jerk Chicken added. Honestly I felt I should have left it without the JC, because the pizza was already LOADED. Every darned thing about that pie was perfect. One of the few IC pizzas that is not too greasy (look'n at you Pags). I highly - HIGHLY recommend their pizza !”

He would walk all the way from our house at 16 W. Bloomington to the Mill Restaurant to buy me one of their delicious grilled egg sandwiches. I know there was quite an array of them. “I'm not sure why this page is full of tech and finance reviews. Hopefully mine will actually help people who are curious about this Iowa City gem. Molly's catered a small cake and a large number of cupcakes for my mid-sized wedding. Sour stuff first: Complaints (none large enough to warrant less than a five-star review): 1) They didn’t keep a record of our deposit. This seemed unprofessional and disorganized. Luckily, I was able to provide proof of the transaction, and then they “found” it (and didn’t make us pay again). 2) The cake appeared hastily decorated and put together. It did not have the details of the design we had discussed, and the food coloring in the frosting was streaky and not completely mixed. It was still delicious, but disappointing because the main purpose of the cake was for the cutting photos! 3) We had a miscommunication about when we needed the cake delivered. Molly’s was able to get it to us in time, but it sure gave us a scare. Ultimately, delicious cake and cupcakes. Our wedding guests were happy, and, to our knowledge, no one with allergies or sensitivities had any negative impacts. Their ability to accommodate dietary restrictions was one of the reasons we chose Molly’s. Their gluten-free cupcakes are genuinely some of the best. Due to a planning/ordering error on our part, we overlooked our need for a singular egg-free cupcake. Molly’s kindly hand-delivered said solitary cupcake when we frantically called to ask for a remedy. This sort of kindness is some of the best customer service around and more than makes up for the hiccups we had with the process.”

Ordered the choriqueso dip on my first visit & it was decent, just a tad bit more grease than other Mexican restaurants. Also, I scheduled the order for pickup earlier in the day and when I arrived to pickup the order, I still had to wait at least 10 minutes for them to prepare it. Which would’ve been understandable if the restaurant was packed, but only the employees occupied the restaurant at that time. Second visit, I ordered the steak Mexican tacos. The portion sizes were a bit skimp for $4 a taco, and it lacked flavor. The hot salsa is one of its kind and probably my favorite thing on the menu, that I’ve tried so far. I added some to my tacos and it revived the flavor. No comparison to Si Senor 2, but a good alternative.”

“Cookies & More holds a special place in my heart as an Iowa City staple. Since childhood, this charming shop has been a part of my fondest memories. In the bustling days of the Old Capitol Mall, my routine always included a visit to Cookies & More after enjoying places like Aladdin's Castle, Diamond Dave's, and the Capitol Theatre.

What keeps me coming back are their incredibly delicious cookies, each bite bursting with homemade goodness. While all their cookies are delightful, my absolute favorite is the Monster Cookie.

The staff is incredibly nice and helpful. You can get a couple of cookies or a whole bucket of cookies, a large cookie cake made to order with frosting, and even coffee or soda.

I love drinking Lotus energy drinks and they have 3 or 4 with clever 'power plant' names like Infrared and Ultraviolet. Huge RK treats, rich fudgy brownies, tiramisu, scones, muffins, cookies, soups, salads, sandwiches. Mismatched furniture with couches, side tables, different types of chairs and several seating areas. A casual, laid back atmosphere.”

“2nd time eating here. This place is very clean and has good customer service. The first time I order fish and fries. Now the fish was the biggest pieces of catfish I’ve seen. The fish had no season and it was really greasy. The fries were full of salt. I could not eat my food I called back and complained about the food and the guy who works up front was very understanding and was ready to refund me. I told him to not refund me just give me a credit and I’ll just try the wings the next time. I tried the wings finally with fried rice this time. The wings are nice size but it had little to no season on there. It just tasted like meat so I didn’t like them that much but oh boy the Fried Rice here is very delicious just plain vegetable fried rice and it’s amazing so I will definitely be ordering the fried rice more often I don’t know about the other menu items.”

My friend got a mocha, I was jealous, but I had homework to do so I got the black, and it was delightful still. For what it's worth, he said he really liked his too.

Only complaint would be it's kind of a weird order placement / collection situation though, not very intuitive if you're settled in somewhere and waiting. Sure it's not an issue if you're a regular though, so doesn't count against the final rating.”

“Went in with my boyfriend last Friday for date night. The main room with the bar was packed so our server sat us in the other room in the back were it was quieter. We ordered a few drinks, I tried the Elderflower Spritz, which was delicious, and my boyfriend got a beer. The server was a sweetheart but seemed a little nervous. But theymade sure we were taken care of, he checked in on us periodically and made sure everything was to our liking! The food took a little longer than I had hoped, but given how busy it was I understand the wait! Overall it was a great experience and we’ll been back again soon!”

“This place has been a fixture at UofIowa for decades. Menu has drastically slimmed down from days gone by, but we enjoyed the pizza & burger. Expect College service, waiting 45 minutes for our food, plus they were out of several selections on the menu…& move-in weekend was just getting started.”

“All of the baristas are friendly and personable and make you feel welcome. You can tell they all get along well with each other and have fun together, and this makes for a cheerful atmosphere. I'm sure it's not easy being on their feet all day, and there are probably days when they would rather be relaxing, or maybe they're not having the best day. But, you would never know it.
