Awesome space with a great selection of board games and lots of fun snacks. There were lots of people of all ages playing and the staff was very friendly and helpful. They allow you to BYOB as long as people are respectful.

Absolutely LOVED Fortuna! Great, affordable night out! The owner and staff were incredibly friendly and their game collection is quite expansive! The snacks and drinks were reasonably priced, though I’d love to see some more drink options in the future? Will definitely be coming back here for more fun!

My wife and I love playing board games and decided to look at Fortuna as a kind of date night. We had a BLAST!! Staff was amazing. They were knowledgeable about their games, had a system set up from easy to hard, and would work with you to help. (I know a live help desk person !) While playing, we took advantage of two hot dinks and an order of popcorn. All food was excellent. We will definitely do another date night...PS thanks for the eating popcorn with chopsticks during playing games.

Finally got to check out Fortuna and was NOT disappointed! Great selection of games, munches and drinks. Super affordable prices, friendly and helpful staff, my only complaint is that we don’t have one up in CR ? but I’m happy to drive down to visit, because it was a lot of fun. We had a member of our group who doesn’t particularly like board games and still managed to find three games everyone had a blast playing!

The people there were so kind and helpful. It is a wonderful concept, the soda and beverages are amazing, and we had a blast playing boardgames. Wish I lived closer there because I def would become a regular. We are already planning our next trip down there to go again!

The vibe is extremely chill. When I went the music was string covers if pop songs at looks volume at low volume. Conversations were full with staccato laughter that fit perfectly. Our host was kind enough to not only suggest a game (good choice based on our preferences), but to setup and teach it. Not an isolated occurrence. I heard him do the same for other tables while balancing snack and drink tabs. The 120+ games are spread between genres and complexity. There's a slight lean towards party and low complexity, but Everdell, Scythe, and more are present too. Stickers can help you gauge investment if you're new to a particular game.Closing out my tab at evening's end I was shocked to have it so low. Low enough we offered to tip, but were refused. He's trying to keep it cheap enough that all people can come and enjoy. That alone means I will make a point of telling others, but the general vibe and charm of the place and host are the real sellers.A weakness for me: Lack of cocktails, or even beer. I hope to see those in the future, or be told to bring my own and pay a corking fee.I hope to be back, and would look forward to events if there are some coming up.

Vegetarian options: There's a strong popcorn selection, along with dessert snacks such as cake pops, poke stix, and candy bars.

Our favorite date or family fun night in Iowa City, and maybe anywhere. This game cafe has everything going for it. Great staff, welcoming environment, excellent snacks, and very affordable (unlimited!) gameplay, and the selection of truly high-quality gourmet snacks. The owner is very passionate in sharing his love of games. And the snacks really make the experience extra special - totally unique, surprising & fun. We like to try a as many popcorn flavors as we can when we go. And the coffee is wonderful, as are the other drink options. My son was thrilled with his hot chocolate, delightfully presented with a little chocolate mushroom. The old fashioned sodas are lovely too.We love trying to fit in trying as many board games as we can to see what we like. We have found some new favorites here! It's also so nice to have a comfortable table and be able to focus without the distractions of home. Not to mention that some games don't really turn out to be your thing, so it's great to just go and try something new to see what takes.Iowa City is so lucky to have this place. Can't wait to be back in the area and go to Fortuna as much as we can fit in.

This place is amazing!! My friends and I found this gem and we are already making plans to come back. Very calming and the cafe has really delicious and unique options. The music is perfect and it works great as a background noise for any game. You pay a small amount and can play for however long you want and as many games as you. The staff is super nice and will teach you to play any game. I recommend this place to anyone of any age!

Stopped in with some friends. The owner met us at the door to show us around and was knowledgeable and kind. The gaming area was great and family friendly. (Even offering high chairs for our little ones) He also showed us a fun game that was really great!

Great environment. Friendly. Welcoming. Chill. I visited by myself from out of town. I brought my own games just in case they didn't have games that you can solo. They had a handful, like Wingspan, Scythe, Everdell, and Terraforming Mars, but I own those and was hoping to find something new to play. And then I stumbled upon Rolling Realms! It was on my want-to-play list, and...now it's on my want list. ?Overall, it seemed like there were mostly light-medium weight games and not too many heavy games, which makes sense when you're only open for 4 hours. You can't really learn and get into a heavy game [with friends] in that time frame. If I lived near by, I would wish they opened earlier. This seems like a great place to get into gaming, and I think that's the purpose of this cafe. It didn't seem like they have too many huge gamers coming in. Even though I had played all but one of the games the employee suggested, he was so friendly! He was asking me about my game bag, dice trays, and top three favorite games. However, another employee said to me, "Looks like so-and-so convinced you to play Rolling Realms". I was like ? "What? No, I wanted to play it."Anyway, if you are looking to get into games, this is the place to go! And if you are already a gamer, you should go here anyway because the atmosphere is great and the popcorn is fantastic!

A super affordable and great place to hang out with your friends. They have an organized selection of board games no matter your party size, and have classics and tons of options if you want to try something new. It's a super chill environment that allows you to get to know your friends while also being out on the town.
