One of the bigger bookstores I have visited on my indie bookstore tour. Especially once we realized that there was a second floor!
Service was very pleasant and professional. Store has a wonderful selection of products. It was a nice shopping experience.
Good selection of kids books
Owner told us she was going to call the cops on us for standing in front of the window display. We were standing outside on the sidewalk for a few minutes talking to a friend. The owner, Jan, came out and told us we needed to move because we were “blocking their business” and that they could call the cops on us…. For standing on a public downtown Iowa city sidewalk for less than 5 minutes that happened to be in front of the store. Will not be shopping here anymore.
Called ahead and not only did they have the book I needed, they set it aside until I got there.
Great place to purchase books with a huge selection, I special ordered a book and they kept great communication and shipped fast. Will be ordering from again. Thank you!
Prairie Lights is a fabulous independent bookstore. An Iowa City highlight!
By far, Prairie Lights is a great little gem that offers books from every genre, author readings, and a cozy coffee shop upstairs! What could be better?!
True a Iowa City experience
I love visiting independent bookstores when we travel. There's no better way to get a feel for the community. I loved how the store was laid out. All staff was very helpful, even some staff members that weren't on the clock.
I saw a lot of books I had not seen on shelves before. There was a great selection even though this isn't a giant store.
Seek this place out if you're in downtown Iowa City. (Cafe area looked cool... just didn't have time to explore everything...but did buy books!)

Such a cute, unique spot to drink coffee and enjoy company or a good book! Workers are super sweet and helpful. Loved the plants, too!
Love the book portion but the cafe is always extremely slow. I went in on 6/6 and there was just two of us, it took about 8 mins for a barista to come from the back with headphones on just to get our order.
Love this bookstore! Has great author talks, huge variety of books, coffee shop is great!
Nice book store!
The cafe upstairs has some of the best coffee in town and showcases local artists! Fantastic tea options and great matcha as well. I would not recommend their chai, but everything else is very good with pastries fresh from Deluxe bakery. The book store also has a lot of great options!
