One of my favorite restaurants in Iowa City. The Ban Mhi with everything and the Pho is amazing. 11/10.

I took my daughter to eat here while I was visiting Iowa City in 2022. I’ve been living in Southeast Asia for about three years now, and I consider myself to be a decent judge Southeast Asian soups. I guess I was expecting what I was used to with pho but it was actually pretty good even though it did not taste the same as it does over here, it was really good. I definitely recommend the restaurant because the food is good and the service is great, it’s clean and comfortable. Is it weird that I was shocked that I paid like $15 for my bowl of soup when I’m used to paying a dollar for it over here? Lol All jokes aside, Sun Cafe has good pho, so come check it out!

It was really hard finding a pho place in Iowa city But then I found this little gem amazing And the owner talked with me the entire time I was waiting for my food she was delightful I recommend it to anybody

I had a great experience at this Vietnamese restaurant it takes me back to when I was a child in Sioux City eating Vietnamese every week a couple blocks up the street from our family home where my mom ran a daycare very nice owner the little old Vietnamese lady and her husband provided excellent service they were very polite I do have one small complaint the bathrooms could be cleaned a lot better other than that the food was amazing everything else was spotless including the kitchen I will definitely go back On a regular basis it’s not the best Vietnamese food I’ve ever had but it definitely left a warm memory in my heart and the flavor was amazing I was only able to leave a two dollar tip this time next time I visit my tip will be a lot more assuming the bathroom is cleaned appropriately that’s one thing I check when I go in to every restaurant due to the nature of myself working in a restaurant for many years and taking pride in my cooking and the cleanliness of the restaurant that I work in
It’s not hard to find a good Vietnamese meal anymore; but it’s hard to find one as good as sun cafe. I’ve eaten my way through most of the menu and the only thing stopping me from trying it all is that my favorite dishes are so good I have to get them again.

Great little Viet place. I travel a bit, and a lot of places won’t make off-menu meals. Sun Café made me my favorite dish (bun thit ga nuong cha gio) and it was delicious!

The fried rice was extremely bland and the meat was dry. We aren't excellent cooks but we can make better at home. Their beef pho was also bland and tasted like generic beef broth. Prices have increased substantially in recent years and the quantity and quality doesn't justify the cost. We were excited to try their iced coffee, but found that the $5 price we saw online has now increased to $7 so we didn't go for it.

The Pho broth was excellent but the vegetables were rotten. The spring rolls were very good. We also ordered beef pho but did not receive it. The food was ordered through chomp and they screwed up the order but the restaurant refused to attempt to fix the problem.

My all-time favorite Vietnamese restaurant!! My girlfriend and I go there frequently to get lunch and we are greeted with lovely service and treated like family. I've preached to others about how good this place is and their food is amazing! not only is their Pho some of the best in town, but their other dishes - like their chicken wings and the shredded pork with broken rice - are to die for! Definitely add this place to your list, it'll blow you away.
