And here we are again at my favorite place in Iowa City since moving here but I’ve noticed a few things that this place needs to correct. Portion size. If I’m paying for an ORDER of chips and guacamole which is extra, I expect a good sized portion. It was brought to me in a plastic cup which is unacceptable being as every other place I’ve ever had Mexican food from serves it on a dish or nice bowl with garnish. They do the same for the chips and salsa. I waited what felt like 10 minutes to actually have anyone take my order and that person was the cook who saw me waiting to order as the 2 servers felt it was a good time to do cash register training instead of attending to the customer. Any time I come in here it’s a problem with getting someone to take your order in a prompt fashion. I do like their food, but no honesty. I have been to way better places that serve way better food. And a good size portion for your money. they’re a four minute drive from where I live so it’s convenient when I don’t feel like traveling down the road seven or eight minutes when I’m not feeling good to go to another place And they are conveniently located close to my job. Aside from that I’d probably steer clear and go somewhere that tends to their customers and gives you more for your hard earned money.

The waiter was great, I ordered steak tacos, Mexican style with cheese and lime on the side (my go to) and he recommended the Quesabirria with steak and they were hands down the absolute best steak tacos I have ever had!! Will definitely go back and I highly recommend this restaurant!!

Food was excellent but portion sizes were small - I got 7 shrimp and they were pretty small, hardly enough for 4 tortillas. But with how good the food was, I'd go back and try other things for sure.

Right after you sit at the table, they bring you a plate of chips and salsa (complementary) - that salsa is some of the best I've had in the US. We forgot to click pictures of all that we had for dinner, but here's the list: birria (goat) burrito, pastor (pork) burrito, queso (cheese dip) on the side, and lemonade. They gave us the Dole lemonade bottle (which still had more than 50% in it), after preparing our drinks - probably no other restaurant in town will do that!
We love all of their three salsas, but especially the one that has a smoky flavor. They've decorated the interior nicely and there's enough space too. Definitely my top Mexican restaurant in town right now!

Very disappointed!! The food was so bland it was sad. The California burrito is not an original because, they added beans. It must be an Iowa thing as most places that have a "California burrito" has beans and rice always added to them. If you're going to use that name at least do it the correct way out of respect for the real California burrito. (I'm from Ca i would know)

(I’ve only order delivery) Taco Loco is delicious. The food is wonderful, the prices are affordable, and their delivery is quick. Definitely a must order once a week for me atm. I’ve tried almost all their meat tacos and have not encountered one miss. All were hits and on point, but their dipping sauce…???. Too good, like so good forget chicken soup, their consommé is what’s good for MY soul.I am so glad this taco spot is in Iowa City after the loss of Perez Family Tacos!
