Ordered the protein vanilla latte and it was chunky additionally ordered the pistachio latte that was not good. It took them 10 minutes to serve us and did not address us while we were waiting there. The baristas also were talking about how they did not know how to make the coffee and it was stupid that they had it.

This used to be such a nice place to study, but for some reason it’s gotten way stricter lately. Every time I sit down, I feel like someone’s about to ask me for proof of purchase. It’s uncomfortable and honestly unnecessary. Let people exist.

This used to be my favorite place to study. Now it feels like a checkpoint. Staff patrols the cafe looking for outside drinks or proof you’ve bought something. Otherwise, you’re out. It’s a coffee shop, not the TSA. Relax.

Try the Purple Haze Latte if you enjoy lavender coffee!! I wasn't sure if I'd like it, but they informed me they use organic lavender, I wasn't disappointed!

An Iowa City institution. Coffee and pastries are on point. Usually have been pretty good at fulfilling online orders for pickup. Finding a place to sit can be tough sometimes, but if you get one, you can stay and study for a while. I just wish they still stayed open at night. It used to be a great place to hang or study at night.

I like supporting local and like the location. If you like rude, disgruntled baristas, this is the place for you. Maybe costumers in Iowa City like being treated as if they are annoying and ignorant. In a weird way, it is fun and makes you appreciate all the kindness of the Midwest.

I had a meeting here and purchased a coke from the restaurant they were connected with. I was requested to move from the restaurant and go somewhere else, so I went to this café which the restaurant was connected with. A rude worker asked my acquaintance and I to leave if I did not purchase anything; which I did purchase a coke from them which was quite confusing. What was infuriating was there were many students studying there and some had not purchased a drink or any food items, but they did not bother to ask them to leave. The coffee is overpriced anyway, and it is not anything different from the ordinary overpriced lattes you could get anywhere else. I do not recommend studying or having a meeting here, for they will not treat you welcomingly.

I had the worst experience at Java house today! I go there frequently to work and study because I liked the environment and it was good to out of the house. Today they kicked me out of Java house! They said that if I do not buy a drink from them I can’t study there. This makes absolutely no sense at all!!!! As a coffee shop you should be welcoming even if they aren’t buying a drink. If I am a company I would make my space as welcoming as possible and never kick someone out for simply not buying a drink. They don’t care about the customer only there profits. Well guess what I will never be going again and will not be bringing my friends either. So they lost a loyal customer and lost money and their reputation. I DO NOT RECOMMEND JAVA HOUSE TO ANYONE THEY ARE RUDE AND NOT WELCOMING.

They made our whole order wrong - sandwich, salad, and coffee. There was only 2 other people ahead of us and it took almost 20 minutes for our orders. I would have asked for a refund, but didn't realize it was all wrong until we got to our destination. Had to throw the salad away. I heard from my daughter that they are notorious for bad service. They made 2 coffee drinks before mine wrong too so I should have checked.

Very nice place to visit, study or just rabbit coffee. Grabbing coffee is what we have done each time we are near these Java roasters. This is by far some of the best coffee around! Great service always as well! It does take a bit for a coffee order, just be patient. These people know what they are doing and the coffee is worth the wait!

Oct 2023: The wifi is terrible. It’s sometimes impossible to connect, and even if you do, it’s slow and sometimes nonfunctional. This is especially true when it’s midterm season and there are lots of students studying, which is somewhat often during the school year.
