Nice location, food, and coffee are pretty good usually. It's definitely fast food quality, only a few steps above something like caribou or scooters. The service, however, can be pretty poor. Sometimes the staff are great but other times they can be quite rude.
I had an issue with a barista who really pushed personal boundaries - asking for my personal phone number and social media accounts. This made me very uncomfortable. Another time, I received the wrong order, and when I asked them to fix it, I received a cup full of milk foam and nothing else. The barista had been very snippy/annoyed with me and I'm positive this cup of foam was intentional. I've also had friends tell me about staff deadnaming them and refusing to put their preferred name on the order.
The specific people I mentioned don't appear to work here anymore- they seem to have high turnover rate- but I feel it is worth mentioning.
One of several Iowa City locations. My husband is the pickiest coffee snob but their Americano gets his approval. He also buys their bags of coffee beans. I love drinking Lotus energy drinks and they have 3 or 4 with clever 'power plant' names like Infrared and Ultraviolet. Huge RK treats, rich fudgy brownies, tiramisu, scones, muffins, cookies, soups, salads, sandwiches. Mismatched furniture with couches, side tables, different types of chairs and several seating areas. A casual, laid back atmosphere.

I accidentally placed my order at the wrong location and they were extremely helpful! I got my food from the location I meant to place the order from and left with a smile on my face. The staff is always wonderful and I love the environment they create. Definitely will keep coming back.

They didnt look too busy with no other customer ordering food in person, but it took about 25 min to get two half sandwiches. But the saddest part was the quality of food. One sandwich was burned mostly to black both top and bottom. I was surprised that they thought it's ok to serve such a quality of food to the customer.

The coffee is excellent, but the pastries are meh. The first ingredient in the lemon poppyseed muffins is sugar. They are breakfast sugar cakes. Ugh.

The worst ever location. I came with family multiple times to Java house on Mormon trek and the drinks we ordered taste horrible. The lattes always taste like burnt coffee. The caramel flavored drinks taste only like cold brew. And the pastries are dry. Not coming back again.
