Great London Fog with honey! Highly recommend.
This food is delicious and you can tell they use high quality ingredients. I got the tostado woth eggs and espresso, which were both impressive. Great gluten free options. Would recommend
Food was great. Best latte of my life. I will say the service was subpar, not super friendly. Completely, gluten free! They also didn’t have straws for their in house drinks which I thought was odd. Would have loved even a metal or glass straw. But overall, a great atmosphere and wonderful product. The banana bread wasn’t too sweet (which is good) and the smoothie bowl was fantastic.
love their matcha!!
Was expecting more. They do have lots of vegan options, but otherwise nothing special. Ridiculously expensive too. Didn't like their latte, too dark. Tough to park. Paid street parking only.
Lots of space for study/work. Decent pour over.
I love it here. The coffee is great, the food is great and the atmosphere is cozy. While many companies take a turn to shortcuts and corporatize, Kindred seems so customer and community focused I won’t go anywhere else.
Thanks for being THEE coffee joint of IC
I'm a celiac. This was absolutely delicious and as close to dedicated GF as it can be! Their only potential qualm is that the oat milk they use, while GF, is not *certified* GF.
Lovely ambience, delicious and creative bakery items, and I highly recommend the avocado toast with all of the fixings.
Maybe I should live here so I can go here all the time, lol
Truly above and beyond service. Driving through Iowa during our long trips home to family is made easier knowing we’ll get to stop here on the way.
Really tasty and creative homemade seasonal drinks AND great brew coffee makes this place so special and worthwhile.
The kindness we experienced here is the real reason I wish I could give this spot 100 stars, but I will settle for 5. Support this local gem!

Best coffee in Iowa city?
I know what you’re thinking. Why on earth would anyone say something so controversial and daring. Why would anyone subject themselves to the slings, arrows, and other assorted projectiles of Iowa City’s famously opinionated townies?
Well gentle reader I am so brave and I simply can’t hold it in. Kindred is phenomenal - legitimately world-class - and I don’t care who knows it. Actually I do - everyone should.
I had a cappuccino that was so delicately frothed, so deliciously creamy, so delightfully sprinkled with notes of chocolate that I simply had to come back for more.
I got myself a decaf (made fresh to order) and was blown away. How on earth does plain black decaf taste this good? It was complex, acidic, with a bit of…is that raspberries? What?!
Anyway, do yourself a favor and visit kindred. I love all my Iowa city coffee shops. Java House for the vibes, Prairie Lights for the view, T-Spoons for the baked goods. They all have a place in my heart. But it’s now undisputed: Kindred is the go to for coffee.

Loved this stop on my road trip home. A beautiful spacious shop, friendly staff and one of the best vanilla lattes I've ever had.

Beautiful space, great tasting coffee, total lack of cream. No half and half or cream for coffee. Barista would not elaborate on a reason. To- go coffee cost $4.51, no cream

We made a trip to Kindred while in town for a football game. I got there right as they opened on Sunday morning and was surprised to see how many others were making their way in, too. It’s clearly a well loved place in the community! I had a great vanilla latte.

The DEFINITION of a classic Iowa City coffee shop, Kindred Coffee feels like it's been part of the community fabric for decades, despite only being a newcomer on the scene. The space is airy and modern but never seems to be too loud to get a few hours of work done.
Most importantly to me the coffee and matcha are top-notch, thanks to them using local Brass Ring Coffee. Kindred, like many Iowa City coffee shops, seriously rivals some of the best coffee shops in larger cities (Minneapolis, Saint Paul, Chicago, Kansas City) and their staff are always attentive and friendly. They also are deeply involved in the Iowa City community and support many local artists, makers, and shop owners.
Food-wise, everything is vegetarian and can be made vegan and many (if not all) of their bakery items are gluten-free. Highly recommend!
