Uniquely classic vibes appropriate for the local area that accurately displays history. Great food portions and enjoyed the chocolate chip coffee latte.

Charming Riverfront Café with History and Heart
Coffee on the River in Lansing is a true gem—combining great food, refreshing drinks, and a view that’s hard to beat. Nestled right along the banks of the Mississippi, the outdoor seating offers a peaceful, scenic spot to sip your coffee and watch the river roll by.
Inside, the preserved architecture of the old mill adds a unique charm. You can still feel the history in the beams and brickwork—this was once a working mill used to fill barges, and now it’s a cozy café that honors its roots while serving up delicious fare.
Whether you're grabbing a latte, enjoying a sandwich, or just soaking in the view, Coffee on the River delivers a memorable experience. Friendly staff, relaxing atmosphere, and a perfect blend of past and present.
As another added bonus you must walk up the street to visit Horse Falls Variety Store a must see to believe.

I am a repeat customer and try to make Coffee on the River a stop when in the area. I love the quaint atmosphere and ability to sit on the patio with view of the river during nice weather. Also, I’ve enjoyed the food in the past. My recent experience however was disappointing. First, there was no coffee. How can you have a coffeehouse with no coffee? It was a full 1.5 hours before closing and there was no coffee. We were told only Americano was available. Tried to order a cold brew and were told that machine was not working. So we ordered hot chocolate. We had to ask for it after our food finally arrived which was also slow to arrive. We waited, and waited and waited….finally the hot chocolate came served lukewarm and half foam in the cup. There were 4 people working and the place was not busy. I’m not sure why it would take over 30 minutes to make hot chocolate. Will try again when in the area and hopefully will have a more positive experience.

Wonderful place! Good coffee, good pastries, good breakfast, and sitting on the deck overlooking the river was fantastic. The interior of the building is so unique and interesting, and there are a lot of seating options.

Staff was very nice, food was great, coffee was okay. Service was extremely slow. No syrup flavors for coffees or milk alternatives listed anywhere that we saw. We came up on the weekend and the shop was very busy the first day so we understand the long wait times. We waited about 15 minutes for our coffees. We got them and they were basically room temperature. The pastries were delicious. We chalked it up to how packed the place was due to an half marathon in town. We then tried again the next day and next to no people were there when we went in. Coffees again took awhile to make. Pastries again were awesome. We ordered a quiche and never got it. We were going to ask for a refund after waiting for it to come out as we saw people repeatedly getting their orders that ordered after us. We weren’t sure how the cooking situation was so wanted to just make sure we weren’t just being impatient but after 15-20 minutes we gave up. Once we decided to go to the counter we waited in the line of three people for about 10 minutes before we gave up and left. It was such a cute shop, such nice staff. But service was an issue. We will come back maybe if we are back in town. Just disappointed, really wanted to love this place. Hoping we just stopped on an off weekend. I would still recommend people to go, shop local. I just see areas that improvement could be made.

Loved the cozy atmosphere on lower level indoor, beautiful multi-level seating overlooking the Mississippi and Lansing bridge on upper indoor and multi-level outdoor seating areas. The food was phenomenal 😋 We had the Sausage Wrap and the Breakfast Flatbread, with a fresh muffin. Excellent food, service and view. Will definitely be stopping back!

Breakfast was absolutely delicious! I wish I could sit outside on the upper deck, relax with a beautiful view of the river and drink your Apple-chai-der all day.
Can I give this 10 stars? This one of the nicest coffee shops I’ve ever been to. It’s in a wonderful warm and woody old building, with a nice patio area overlooking the River. Plus the coffee/chai and food were outstanding. The breakfast menu is unique and very reasonably priced. Will definitely be back.

Went back again after visiting back in Winter of last year and was happy to discover not only is the coffee and service as good as I remember it but they were even more delicious with the muffins (which I'd neglected to try the first time)

Stunning old building and gorgeous river views. The coffee was delicious and there was a great vibe and coffee culture here.
This place is hopping on weekends, so there may be a little wait for food.

Super friendly service, our breakfast was outstanding and reasonably priced. And the view while we ate couldn’t be better! Lansing is lucky to have such an original place!
