Reading the other reviews has me confused because we did not find the service here very friendly at all. No, “good morning how can I help you?” Or “Have a nice day” Nothing! They almost seemed annoyed that we were even there. The place was dead absolutely no one there but my husband and I. The coffee was okay but I prefer to purchase overpriced coffee from an establishment with friendly workers and owners.

This is such a fun place! We stopped in on our way out of town and not only were the view and coffee great, but the staff was so welcoming and hospitable. If you are EVER in Lansing, stop in!

What a wonderful little hidden jewel along the Mississippi!! We SO enjoyed an intimate New Years meal of amazing courses and lovely champagne cocktails and delicious wine. It was a limited reservation only event. But the coffee drinks and restored grainery atmosphere was also enjoyable on another day. Don't drive by without checking it out!

Stopped in for breakfast and coffee on a Saturday morning recently. Our first time doing so. Ordered hot chocolates for the kids; iced americano, cappuccino and black coffee for the adults. The barista made sure the hot chocolates weren’t scalding hot so the kids could actually drink them. They and all the coffee/espresso drinks were incredibly well done and tasted perfect. Also ordered the original breakfast wrap, sausage wraps and a Carmel apple wrap. Barista recommended an off menu grilled cheese for the kids so we took her suggestion. These were perhaps the best wraps any of us have ever had. Absolutely perfect in every regard. The chef is incredibly talented and well in tune with the balance of flavors happening in each one of these wraps. The atmosphere is nostalgic and deeply historic, with the illuminated kitchen counter area serving as the heart of the establishment and radiating warmth and comfort throughout the building. The large timbers are magnificent to look at and ponder what must’ve been going on a hundred years ago in this building. Our travels bring us through the area periodically and we will now always be sure to stop here for wonderful food, impeccable coffees, great service, and one of a kind atmosphere. We absolutely love this place. Thank you so much to the family that owns and operates the building and the restaurant. Please keep up the amazing job. You have made a gem.Kid-friendliness: Kind and accommodating to children. Menu options for the kids.

I have had lunch at Coffee on The River numerous times and have never been disappointed. They do special dinners about once a month that are to die for. Both Diane and Wendy, the owners, are a class act. I would strongly recommend them.

Muffins are excellent, staff is helpful and friendly, the establishment is just so unique and charming. my only issue was the coffee, it was just alright. Not bad but not great either. I do love that they offer alternative milks/plant based milks and let me use my own cup!
