We just hosted a birthday/graduation party and had Whatcha Smokin’ catered. They really made the event šŸ‘šŸ½šŸ‘šŸ½šŸ‘šŸ½ The delivery and set up was quick, easy, professional, and the gentleman bringing the catering in was so personable. The food, of course, was phenomenal. We ordered brisket, smoked turkey, coleslaw, mac n cheese, and cheesy potatoes. I opted for the stands and sternos additionally and added cornbread. Worth EVERY penny for the convenience and ease for hosting this event where we hosted over 30 people at our home. We will absolutely use them again!

We had an excellent server, called everyone "My Friend" :). We sat in the back barn. Atmosphere was excellent. Brisket and Ribs were amazing. All the food was great, our friends loved it as well. I prefer their fries with no seasoning because they have sugar in the seasoning. This place is a gem and real deal texas slow smoke.

First, the foods were good. Fries and corn bread were impressive. Meats were also good, but not very uniquely good.

Secondly and the more importantly, even the foods were good they really didn’t worth the waiting time. My family waited over 45 mins for meat only, and we were not aware of that we had to wait so long. Nobody told us even the field was full of angry people waiting. I was there at 2:30pm Saturday so normally it shouldn’t be a peak time. I came into the restaurant and saw there were only three people were cooking. All the staff seemed relaxed and pretty accustomed to so many people waiting.

A decent BBQ restaurant is not super rare in DSM. And their price was not competitive. I didn’t see any point why I had to eat there concerning the unbearable waiting time.

I had heard this was the best barbecue place in the Des Moines metro area, so I had wanted to try it for a while. Unfortunately, this place, in my experience, was highly over rated.

For starters, the food was not that great. The sausage tasted like grocery store breakfast sausage, and the brisket was served luke warm...really almost cold. The BBQ baked beans tasted about the same as other places (at least they were served hot, unlike the brisket), and there was nothing special about the macaroni and cheese. I'd say the best part about the meal was the corn bread!

What about service? My server was nice, however, as I walked by her as I was leaving, she did not say a word to me, nor did the two employees she was talking to. When I went through that door and into the next room which leads to the exit, not a single employee said a word to me, including one lady I looked directly at.

So, overall, I was not impressed, to say the least.

Wow, we drove by this restaurant and decided we wanted some BBQ for dinner. We didn't expect much because of its location, but the reviews were great, so we gave it a shot. I can't believe how great the bbq was here. Everything was great and on point. We order the 3 meat platters(ribs, brisket, and sausage)with jalapeno corn and cheese poetatos with corn bread. We have eaten at some great BBQ restaurants, and this ranks in the top. If you are in the area, stop by. You will not want to miss out on this experience.

I’m from Texas. Been to Terry Black’s in Austin, Louie Meuller’s in Taylor, Stanley’s Famous in Tyler. Lots of great places. This place is legit! Don’t think you can get great BBQ outside of Texas? Come to Luther, Iowa!

I think everyone knows Whatcha Smokin is the best bbq around by far and they never disappoint in the restaurant or take out! We just used them to cater our wedding and it was phenomenal!! The process was SO easy, Madeline is awesome and super communicative. Their staff the day of was so nice and thoughtful and of course the food was spectacular, I think literally everyone said it was the best wedding food they have had. One of our family members from Dallas even said it was the best barbecue she’s ever had and she lives in Texas! It was also super affordable which was so nice with planning an expensive wedding and for the quality and quantity we got! Of course the restaurant is awesome but we HIGHLY recommend them for your next catering needs!!
