This place is so cute and we had great food and service! The oatmeal pies are dangerous - be careful! 😂 but for real absolutely amazing! Would go back if we were ever in the area again!
All great except for the golf cart size parking spaces out front. A big 👎🏻 on them. Redo and rectify please. Everything else is over the top.

2023: This place looks like the economic revival program for Luther Iowa. I've been riding my bicycle past this place since the late 70's, when in college @ ISU and was racing road bikes. The elementary school in Luther was still open back then. Same in Sheldahl. The 70's to the present has generally been a decline for these small towns.
I've watched this place be a repair shop, a C store and sit vacant.
Decent food kind of cold beer and friendly service. Interesting eclectic clientele. Keep up the good work !
Fantastic food with great service. Only disappointment was they ran out of their homemade oatmeal cream cookies. Fat man sadness
Some of the best BBQ I had in a while.
Absolutely love this place.
Always awesome service and great food. I highly recommend if you love BBQ food.😋
We just hosted a birthday/graduation party and had Whatcha Smokin’ catered. They really made the event 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 The delivery and set up was quick, easy, professional, and the gentleman bringing the catering in was so personable. The food, of course, was phenomenal. We ordered brisket, smoked turkey, coleslaw, mac n cheese, and cheesy potatoes. I opted for the stands and sternos additionally and added cornbread. Worth EVERY penny for the convenience and ease for hosting this event where we hosted over 30 people at our home. We will absolutely use them again!
We had your pop up in Newton today!!! Oh my word!!!! 10/10!! Please come back again!!!!!!!!!
Seating policy needs revisited.

We had an excellent server, called everyone "My Friend" :). We sat in the back barn. Atmosphere was excellent. Brisket and Ribs were amazing. All the food was great, our friends loved it as well. I prefer their fries with no seasoning because they have sugar in the seasoning. This place is a gem and real deal texas slow smoke.

First, the foods were good. Fries and corn bread were impressive. Meats were also good, but not very uniquely good.
Secondly and the more importantly, even the foods were good they really didn’t worth the waiting time. My family waited over 45 mins for meat only, and we were not aware of that we had to wait so long. Nobody told us even the field was full of angry people waiting. I was there at 2:30pm Saturday so normally it shouldn’t be a peak time. I came into the restaurant and saw there were only three people were cooking. All the staff seemed relaxed and pretty accustomed to so many people waiting.
A decent BBQ restaurant is not super rare in DSM. And their price was not competitive. I didn’t see any point why I had to eat there concerning the unbearable waiting time.

I had heard this was the best barbecue place in the Des Moines metro area, so I had wanted to try it for a while. Unfortunately, this place, in my experience, was highly over rated.
For starters, the food was not that great. The sausage tasted like grocery store breakfast sausage, and the brisket was served luke warm...really almost cold. The BBQ baked beans tasted about the same as other places (at least they were served hot, unlike the brisket), and there was nothing special about the macaroni and cheese. I'd say the best part about the meal was the corn bread!
What about service? My server was nice, however, as I walked by her as I was leaving, she did not say a word to me, nor did the two employees she was talking to. When I went through that door and into the next room which leads to the exit, not a single employee said a word to me, including one lady I looked directly at.
So, overall, I was not impressed, to say the least.
