We loved staying at The Decker Hotel! The room was so nice, clean and comfortable. There was history everywhere you look. I'm making reservations to stay there again right now. š
Just went to look at the building and antiques.
WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. DO NOT STAY HERE. If I could give it no stars, thatās what it deserves. If youāre passing through Maquoketa, DO NOT stay at Decker Hotel. The advertising is a complete rip off. When you approach the vintage building, itās clear how run down and grungy itās gotten over time. The exterior is poorly taken cared of and the awning and entrance for the restaurant looks sketchy and not well lit. When entering and checking in, we were met with a manager who rushed through every word and threw the keys at us after getting the card information. We entered our room to find that we paid over $200 for two nights to see a dirty bed with every layer covered in little black bits, broken locks on the door, an extremely outdated television and no amenities. When addressing that our door could not lock, the manager laughed and said that we have to lock things up from the inside. THAT IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. We left our room and returned that evening with the uncertainty that our room was secure. The next morning, the manager was up and vacuuming our level at 7 in the morning. The most ridiculous time ever to be doing that with no regard for the customers. After realizing that the āfree breakfastā room had an empty fridge, no actual anything in it just a sign saying hereās the breakfast room and the restaurant seeming closed, we checked out early. This experience was a nightmare. When we told the manager that we were checking out and would like to discuss our stay, he proceeded to then say the word Expedia over and over and over again with no actual direction. If you book online, donāt expect your money back because the manager will never answer the phone for this need. Only to rush you out of the building when you have a problem, hence what he did instead of listening to any concern. Donāt waste your time on this disgusting place. Thereās definitely a better option.

No bar or restaurant anymore. Need to rename to Hotel only.
Our stay... No bar, elevator broke " with 3rd floor room", no fridge, no ice machine, Roku TV "really", completely let down ?. No amenities other than free parking. What a joke. For the price, pick anything else.
Rooms: Clean, cuz no one stays here!
Walkability: Downtown.
Food & drinks: Bring a cooler!

The location was perfect for our purpose...by the state park and fabulous breweries.
I can imagine this was an amazing hotel in it's day. Beautiful staircase, gorgeous brick and amazing woodwork. The room was fine. Bed comfy, water hot. No frills.
It seems to be undergoing restorations. The restaurant and bar are closed, which is unfortunate.
Breakfast room provided cereal, fruit, and biscuit sandwiches that you microwave( Not a fan at all). Skip that amd enjoy breakfast in town or explore neighboring spots.
Enjoying life 1 sip, 1 bite and 1 small town at a time. Explore everything!

Beautiful place and quiet, this is my first time in Maquoketa and this place is a gem. I love how they've kept the older look and feel of the place. Staff are kind and accommodating, I haven't gone down to the cave downstairs, but if it's anything like the rest of the hotel, I feel that it's just as good. I'm completely enchanted by this place, a true jewel in this town. I hope to stay again soon.

We traveled out to Maquoketa for a short 3-day getaway from Chicago. After 2 days of hiking and a night camping at the Maquoketa Caves, we greatly enjoyed taking a bath and having a good sleep.
We stayed in one of the king-size rooms with a jacuzzi tub, which felt very luxurious. The hotel itself is very lavish -- the grand stair case was definitely a great photo op. We really liked having a physical key on a key chain. It felt like stepping back in time -- at least to the 90s.
Our room was immaculately clean including the jacuzzi jets. The bathtub was huge and filled easily with hot water. The bed was comfy and had enough pillows and a quilt. The room had thick carpeting as opposed to the kind that can be swapped out really quick by maintenance. The TV was equipped to play local channels as well as streaming services -- not that we were in the right mindset to start a movie or binge anything.
Unfortunately, the bar was not open as we visited Monday/Tuesday as opposed to a bumping Friday night. But to be fair, nothing in Maquoketa seemed to really be popping on a Monday night. We ended up driving out of town for dinner as we were tired of eating sandwiches out of our ice chest.
Mike was extremely friendly and accommodating. Check-in and out was fast and easy.
My partner and I prefer to stay at independent hotels. This one was a gem that was definitely worth a visit.

The room was clean. Beds were so so, pillows were good, shower was good. Breakfast was a joke. We left and went to McDonald's instead. The new owners shut the restaurant down, which was stupid, as they used to have a great breakfast. Didn't go to the bar. We stayed 10 years ago and it was 5 star then. These new owners ruined it, sadly.

The rooms are very clean and nice. I loved all the antiques around the lobby. The hotel is not handicapped accessible and there's no one around to ask for help getting bags up the stairs. I couldn't find a usb port anywhere to charge my phone. This was my first time at a b&b so maybe my expectations were too high for breakfast. The first day the choices were microwave sausage biscuits, yogurt, frosted flakes, fruit loops, bananas, chocolate chip granola bars, and hard boiled eggs. They didn't restock the breakfast room for the next day, so no hot breakfast (all the sausage biscuits had been eaten the previous day) and there were still empty/dirty milk pitchers sitting in the same place as the day before. I wasn't impressed, but the rooms were very nice.

Great historic feel to the building, beautiful woodwork that you just donāt see in places under $100/night usually. Still use old school metal keys on a key ring, I like that. Our room was clean, comfortable, the window opened, parking was easy and free on the Main Street.New ownership in the recent past, we were told by the locals drinking at the bar. Staff is from west India, they have a good thing going, hopefully they can keep this historic building and business alive!Ps restaurant is closed currently but the bar is serving frozen pizzas and the similar modest bar foods. Bar was open from 5p on Fri sat sun onlyFood & drinks: Bar was open downstairs with reasonable prices and karaoke (Friday nights until 1030p)
