The food was okay. Not the best but not the worst. No real seating, as the restaurant is more like a taco truck, with only a window for ‘to go’ orders. The staff was friendly and spoke enough English to take your orders.The food was mediocre. I’d stay away from the tamales (pork and chicken) , as they were microwaved and dried out. Authentic Mexican in Iowa? Who would have guessed! We live in Texas, where good street tacos are prized. Maria's are as good as any I've had at home or in Mexico City. The posole was flavorful, and husband said the burrito was five star. Homemade horchata was best I've had anywhere. Every time we come to Marshalltown for family, Maria's is a must stop. Don't expect a fancy restaurant. It's window service from an old house, and you eat at picnic tables...
Sweet tamales (along with regular tamales) and steak tacos are delicious. Burritos are huge. Always, always, always get the green sauce. Never disappoints. Red sauce is a little bit spicy, use small amounts to taste.
