Always worth a stop. Their beers are perfect, but there is a full bar to meet all your needs. If you are hungry, there is a solid menu with excellent food.

We recently celebrated my parent’s 40th wedding anniversary with an open house happy hour at Old Man River. The owners so easy and accommodating to work with while preparing and were very responsive as we planned from out of tow . The appetizers, service, and drinks were FANTASTIC and our entire group had a great time. If you’re ever in McGregor put this on your MUST VISIT list.

After camping at Pike’s Peak for five nights, we were very excited to see that some of the restaurants had begun to open in McGregor on Thursday. We were deciding between two local places and decided to try Old Man River for a late lunch with our two young kids. Having a special needs kiddo, we wanted to see the menu prior to eating there. Upon entering, there was only one table with patrons and five people seated at the bar. My husband went to the bar and stood for a few minutes, only to be completely ignored by the bartender who was busy showing videos on her phone to three of the people at the bar. We should have left then, as the vibe was telling us our presence wasn’t really desired by the woman behind the bar. After sitting down, the woman came over and without a greeting she asked us for our drink orders. We placed our drink orders and then when she came back, we we placed our food order. When I dared to ask for a different cheese on my burger, the woman stated, while giving me a glare; “ I created this menu and I hate when people pick it a part and make changes”. Fine. After taking our order, the woman went to the only other table in the restaurant and literally stood there and talked with them for almost ten minutes, with our order in hand - which included food for two hungry kids. The woman, was incredibly gruff, disinterested at all serving those in the establishment but made it very clear that she “has really high standards and it’s been hard to hire good help”…we are left believing that it’s not lack of people that has the place short on good help. When we were ready to leave, the two waitstaff on hand were not in the area and the man behind the bar said “I can’t help you, they’ll be back”.The food, for the price, was absolutely not worthy of its cost, nor did it provide any redeeming qualities for the poor service. The beer brewed on site was mediocre as far as craft beer is concerned. The only saving grace was an amazingly kind woman working there who helped serve our table and was so great with our kids.Long story short; our review, sadly, mimics the sentiments of others, which is that the place has fantastic potential, but the service of a single woman - who actually appears to be an owner, is the downfall of the entire place. Our advice: go elsewhere.

Michelle and I stopped in for lunch one Saturday. We met Greta Garbo and her family, and had some amazing food with drinks to match. Learned a lot about the history of the area along with the stories of the river boats and Jo Steamers. This is a stand out spot and a must visit place.

The good: nice atmosphere, good home made bread, good soups; soup, salad, bread all included with the meal. Beer was good. The bad: ribeye steak was ordered medium rare and was rare, steak leaked no juice on the plate and was luke warm at best- seemed to have been pre-cooked and microwaved when ordered, at least that's what it tasted like. Were offered a loaded potato option but not told it came at an added price. Salad looked like it came out of a bag. I could overlook everything but the steak which was a big disappointment.Total for two ribeye dinners, one cocktail, one beer, and tip was $110. My wife's steak was undercooked and seemed to have been reheated (barely) as well. My wife commented that we could have had a much better meal at home for 1/3 the cost. She was right. I'm giving two stars for value and 2 poor steaks.

We travel through MacGregor quite often while enroute to Wisconsin on the other side of the river from MacGregor. When we do we make it a point to stop in MacGregor, generally for lunch, as we always make a significant effort to support local businesses whenever we travel. Stopped in the Old Man River and Brewery for lunch and sadly, left quite disappointed. This was in December and the place was absolutely freezing inside to the point we had to keep our coats on to eat. Despite being the only diners in the place our order was mixed up the first time (incorrect sides), but the server did take both orders back and fixed them. The steak sandwich appeared to be of the partially pre-cooked, processed-type rather than prepared onsite from scratch. Even if not, it tasted like it. Bland and totally uninspiring. The Rueben was fine but nothing special. Also, cash only, no credit cards. Finally, and perhaps most disappointing of all, was the person who I assume to be the owner, in a futile attempt to be funny, came off instead as sarcastic and rude, as he openly mocked us for simply wanting to watch the train pass through town before coming inside to eat. “What, first time you’ve ever seen a train?” Quite offensive. No, not the first time I’ve ever seen a train but certainly the last time we will ever stop at your place.

I do feel bad for the town of McGregor this past year because of all the construction and road closure. I was impressed right off the bat at this restaurant at the interior as it looked really cool and had a nice atmosphere. The waitress was really great at first. Until she wasn't. We had 12 people in our group and one of them complained about one of the appetizers she ordered and from that point on she was annoyed with us. She literally argued with the customer about the dip. The chips had no seasoning and the bloody Mary was one of the worst I've ever had. The food was average and I probably would not go again.

Came in with my family, we had a large group, maybe 10 people. Nobody was in the restaurant, not one group or single person, and the man working told my grandma we were “really stupid” for not making a reservation after we had told him how many is in our party. Very rude and poor service! Didn’t even get the chance to sit down before we were being treated poorly so we just left!

Unfortunate experience. Beer great but stressed out wait staff was impatient and quick to ring us out then slow to to even pick up our money hoping we would just leave a big tip. All we wanted was 2 beers and an app of potato chips, but chips weren't available?!? Again...beer great! Service lousy.
