Bland food, interesting atmosphere but also they never checked on us until we hunted one of them down. Gotta get their AC fixed too- just make the 40 minute drive to Taylor's Maid-Rite lmao
Wr are visiting Newton from out of state over the holidays and decided to try an Iowa tradition at Maid Rite. We walked in at 5:55pm on Wednesday before Thanksgiving. There wasn't anything to indicate they were closing at 6, however one of the workers in the back said "Every single time" very loudly as we walked in. So I asked a lady working there if they were closing early and they were. She said they would still serve us. However, because of the bad attitude from the boy working in the back, we decided not to eat there. How incredibly rude.
The sandwich did not have the traditional seasoning on the meat. Highly disappointing considering we were expecting a Maid-Rite. Malt did not have a strong malt flavor as well. Service was good but menu items left much to be desired.
The Maid-Rite has a new owner. Had to check it out and it was wonderful!! Keep up the good work, Mike!
Love the old fashion atmosphere and the food is great!
My family and I love visiting Maid-Rite when we are in town visiting family. We make a special stop because the food is so good and Dan the owner is a kind person. We love the Maid-Rite sandwich with extra pickles as well as the fries snd chocolate shakes!
Normally I order the delicious Maidrite, however on a very cold day, I ordered a bowl of chili. Best chili I have ever had!!
A fast food restaurant offering loose meat sandwiches, fries, malts and deserts. Now that we have moved away from Newton, it's always nice to see friends here. Staff is friendly and prompt.
One of the original Iowa loose meat sandwich restaurants. Beef is fresh ground daily and the malts are worth the visit.
Dad and I were in the area to attend a USAC race at Knoxville raceway. Came over to Newton to visit Maytag dairy farm. Had to stop here for a maid-rite. I’ve been to a couple different locations but the sandwiches here may have been the best even if service was a little slow/inattentive. Would stop here again.

This sandwich shop is in Newton, Iowa, where I live. It is a very popular restaurant and most all the graduates from Newton have to make it their first stop when returning to Newton. One side of the restaurant is a blackboard so visitors can write where they are from and a short message. Booths in the back room. Great loose meat sandwiches, fries, malts, pie, etc.
I grew up in Iowa and took taverns (Maid-Rites) for granted. The loose meat sandwich without sauce is really not available in the rest of the United States. I was in town for RAGBRAI 2018 and had to have one! I love the seasoned loose meat with mustard. I miss these!
