“I spent several months in Story City while I was working with a home builder in Ames. I frequented swannies several times a week while I was there and was always treated so nicely by not just the bartenders but the local patrons as well!

September 19th, 2023, was the one year anniversary of my father's passing.
I had his hat sitting on the bar in front of me, and someone asked the bartender what does significance of that hat was, because I was already wearing one myself. They asked me, and I told them the background story. Somebody offered to buy a beer in his honor, and when word spread, many different people stopped by to share their kind thoughts, cheered my father, and took a drink of his beer.
I think during the time I was there, there must have been three or four beers purchased by and shared by many! It was a very special night!”

“Food: Everything we’ve ever ordered has been astounding! All of the food is fresh, hot, and full of flavor. Portion size is great as well! I love the bread options their store offers also. The quesabirrias tacos are a favorite go to! They also provide lime wedges, radish slices, roasted peppers, and roasted onion with the tacos. The fresh, crisp cilantro is the “cherry” on top lol. Service: Every time we go in there, we’re greeted with a smile! All of the employees are really friendly, patient, and helpful. They do their best to explain something on the menu if you’re not fluent in Spanish/don’t know what something is or consists of. They’re very quick and efficient. Ambiance: A quaint, quiet store/restaurant full of delicious options and amazing smells. It’s kept clean and tidy with medium noise pollution: there’s typically a TV playing in the dining area or music playing throughout the space. “5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ To start, the food is amazing! Each dish was incredible! Everything had so much flavor and was put together very well. Portion sizes are great for the price as well. The chicken was super tender and juicy with just the right amount of teriyaki sauce, in my opinion. Each sushi roll was put together very well with equal proportions. Not too much of one ingredient to overpower the rest. The dumplings were delicious and perfectly crispy on the outside. Not to mention the sauce that came with them was to die for! The service was great! Our waitress was very patient and helped us figure out what appetizers to get, since it was our first time in. She explained everything in detail and her recommendations were perfect! She even made our drinks (I forgot to get a picture of the strawberry lemonade) and they were awesome! Inside wasn’t too loud or crowded and it’s laid out quite nicely. There’s even outdoor seating, which isn’t neglected by the wait staff. Some places tend to “forget” about the customers outside but they didn’t do that here. All of the staff were attentive and polite. “A typical Subway attached to an adjoining Kum & Go center. The staff were all young women, teen-looking but there were three of them so the ones handling the food did not handle the register. The place was clean and the food, except for the sliced cucumbers, was fresh.”
