I have made it a habit of mine to order the biscuits and gravy the first time I go to any restaurant serving such. In doing so, I have eaten more than my fair share of dishes, both good and bad. Carpenter's has earned itself the highly coveted "most bland, flavorless, unseasoned gravy". Even the sausage was flavorless, indistinguishable from might as well have been a lump of flavorless gravy. Oh, and the biscuits were clearly from a tin at best, adding nothing of substance to this already gruel-esque slop.

We didn't really get the full experience because we had to leave. Here's why we left.
We parked out front and were immediately accosted by a dog that was tied to the lamppost. Obviously this is not the fault of the business, but still was not a great start to the visit.
We were seated at a table that was covered in syrup, so we had to clean it ourselves. A man was sitting on the corner watching videos on his phone with the volume up full blast. Another man was at the breakfast counter yelling obscenities loudly enough for the entire restaurant to hear. He was LOUD and completely obnoxious.
The staff did nothing to stop this behavior, so we got up to leave, quietly. As we were walking out a young woman who had been sitting at the table next to us loudly said, "BYE!!!"
Needless to say we won't be back.

Just had another great meal at Carpenters I had the hot turkey sandwich was really good!! And thanks for the great service young man!!
We stopped through while traveling from out of town looking for something different than the same old big chain food restaurants. Experienced great service and an amazing breakfast. The Bloody Mary was delicious! The staff was very courteous and checked in on us often. The owner chatted personally with us after our meal. We will definitely be stopping back if we are traveling through Waterloo. Thank you Carpenter’s Diner for a great experience!

Had breakfast here multiple times and waited in line for about 25-30 minutes. It wasn’t a big deal, though. The food was delicious and fresh, and the waitresses were super friendly and attentive.
But my only complaint was that a family friend or just a friend walked in with their family of more than six people and asked the owner or cook to be seated before anyone else in line who had been waiting there for 25 minutes or more already.
I didn’t appreciate that, and for that reason, I won’t be going back or recommending this place to my family, friends, or customers anymore. I own multiple businesses and treat everyone the same, and I make sure they wait their turn like everyone else. No special treatments, No cutting, No discounts. Business is business.
