Stopped here while we were visiting from NY and loved it. The birria tacos were fantastic and the interior decor was so fun and artsy (way cuter than the pics online I thought) that gave it a great vibe. Service was also great.

The food was great, with very generous portions. The service was very attentive, and the prices were quite reasonable. We would highly recommend El Patron Family Restaurant if you're in the Waterloo area!

I think the chefs each add their own touches. I normally enjoy the chile rellenos, but this over was downright PAINFUL. My face is flushed, my throat is on fire and my eyes won't stop tearing. I'll NEVER order rellenos again....and I may think twice about any orders.

Get the Skinny Margarita! It is the best Margarita I’ve ever had. It’s fresh and clean and not loaded with mix. Yes it is worth EVERY $! On weekends it’s made fresh in front of you!! I’m not a huge tequila fan but I had to try it because it was skinny!
Pair it with pork fajitas and you will not be disappointed!! Also, corn tortillas at other places are not my favorite but here they are white corn and soooo delicious!!!
For 2 of us to eat with a margaritas, $70. I had a whole other meal to take home! That is an amazing value!!

Great food, seasonal outside seating. This is the best authentic Mexican food in town. On our recent visit they had added fresh guacamole prepared at the table to the menu. Delicious!

The BEST Mexican in the 'loo. Chicken is so tender and every dish has unique flavor unlike so many other Mexican restaurants. Juan and staff are amazing!

Out of all of the authentic Mexican restaurants I have been to over the years, this is by far the best. My waiter, Alexander (despite his demands from other customers), was extremely attentive, understanding of my allergic stomach reaction to onions, and attended to mine & my family's every need, without losing his friendly and passionate attitude. The Food was Excellent! Instead of my usual sensitive reaction to most restaurant foods, I was left feeling full, my pallete satisfied, and what I found most amazing was that no grease was left on my plate. The food was Not Only prepared to perfection, but it was clear of the usual grease and greasy taste & residue left over. I normally feel bloated and like I over ate after a meal like this, but instead I felt energetic, with no bad after effects. It was very pleasing, with amazing food, customer service, and atmosphere, I would recommend anyone seeking all 3 factors, to try out El Patron Family Mexican, in Waterloo, IA.
