Food is good but drive through is the slowest drive through ever. It’s has happened everytime I go there!!!!! It is brand new restaurant and needs to be better than 20-25 min wait for one shake

I recently had a great experience at Steak ’n Shake and felt it was worth sharing.
The atmosphere immediately stood out. It has that classic soda shop and diner feel, which is getting harder to find these days. It’s nostalgic without feeling outdated, and it made the whole visit more enjoyable.
The food delivered, especially the shakes. The orange Creamsicle shake was excellent and easily my favorite.
What really made the visit stand out, though, was the staff. Everyone was friendly, but Kate in particular elevated the experience. She brought energy and personality to the room, calling out orders with flair like, “Alright ladies and gentlemen, order number 169 for Jimmy!” It added a fun, almost theatrical element that the kids loved.
Beyond that, she was attentive and thoughtful, even bringing extra napkins without being asked. Small detail, but it shows awareness and care.
Kate clearly takes pride in what she does, and it shows. Steak ’n Shake did well hiring her. Employees like that make people want to come back.

This franchise has gone downhill a lot in the last 5 to 10 years. This location is very clean but very typical of the decreased food quality. Plus they changed ordering to being done electronically by yourself at the front so really no service given to rate them on

I lived near the Mills Civic location when it opened, total disaster. I really wanted to love this Waukee location as I now live out here. I too find the no welcome unfortunate, just a self serve kiosk requesting a tip. I didn’t mind them forgetting my order and getting it wrong so much as the greasy bun, not a good taste. Opening day was good but this 2nd time back I’m just not sure I can be a regular as I would prefer with the convenient location. Individual workers like Reuben are fantastic but the overall implementation is wanting.
We had high hopes for this place the first couple weeks. Since all the management and corporate left the locations quality seems to be tanking. We have been here multiple times since and each time has been progressively worse. On 2/26 came with. My family an ordered the chili Mac. Tasted it and was super bitter like it was bad. We had an extra side of it and it too was bitter. Spoke to the manager and got an oh well and went about her day.
I wish it was better I love the chili Mac but with the poor customer service and the possible food poisoning now.

I’ve never left a fast food place thinking “ damn that service was great” before today. Whoever the hiring manager is knows how to put the right people in the right places. The assistant general manager (JoJo) personally bagged my food, and had me laughing in the drive thru while she did it.
Also, I know we hate RFK JR., but credit where credit is due; beef tallow fries are definitely the move. 💕

I have gotten take out here twice. I each time I am always missing something from my order. The food is good but I don’t understand how you can’t put everything in the bag that the customer paid for.
