I ordered 2 meat and potatoes burritos and 2 chicken bacon ranch and they gave me 3 chicken bacon ranch burritos and 1 meat and potatoes burrito highly not recommend this place since they can’t read orders and get orders right and even better the food was just warm 😀

i’m pregnant and all i wanted was a fricken potato ole. the girl working the drive thru seemed to be half listening to our order and i even asked her to repeat it back to us as it seemed she had no clue what was going on. when she handed us our receipt we were missing a dr pepper but we decided it wasn’t worth the trouble to ask it to be added again. when she handed us the bag i asked if the sour cream that i had asked for was in the bag to which she responded i had never asked for it. my passenger confirmed i did in fact ask for it when we ordered. i was fed up by then and just wanted to go home and low and behold we sat down to eat and there was not a SINGLE potato ole in our bag even though we were rang up for two small orders. will not be coming back to this location and there should be some genuine reconsideration about who management hires here. terrible terrible service.

I understand good help is hard to find these days but the young female running the drive thru on 10/10/2025 should be let go. She definitely has the worst attitude ever and is condescending and rude to customers. “I don’t think the comments of if you don’t like it oh well that’s how we made it” should ever be said to someone. She clearly didn’t pay attention in school when it came to listening and following directions. I will never stop at this location again.

There was a point in time when Taco John’s food was full of flavor, and worth eating but not when you can’t even get the person taking the order to listen to what your order is it’s a guarantee to be disappointing.

We had a late night last minute craving for tacos. We were driving through the city, after a long shift at work. I love Taco John's potato oles so we Googled the nearest one, and stopped by. It closed at 11pm and we stopped by using the drive thu at 10:15. Not quite sure what we wanted so we asked for a minute to decide. And we were rudely informed by another staff member over the intercom to just be aware that we close at 11pm. Though didn't plan on taking 45 minutes to order. We picked the quickest thing we could and wanted to leave. I'll get my taco craving elsewhere after this.

lol put whoever is working the drive thru tonight out of their misery, they could not be any more inconvenienced as they were tonight taking our order.
I don’t need a cheerleader, but damn - it’s weird someone shoving food in your hand and just shutting the window on you without single word.

I recommend this Taco John's. It's the best all the way around to me.

No vegetarian options, and the burrito with only beans was sooooo small.

For the past few months I have been going to Taco Johns a couple times a week at around 630 am, right when they open. I order the same thing every day, a taco bravo and two bean burritos. I've done this at 3 different locations throughout Des moines (Grand Ave, merle hay, and Hubbell Ave). This morning I found myself near this particular taco Johns. I went to order my food and was told I wasn't allowed to do that, because it was breakfast only. I mentioned that I do this quite regularly, and the guy said basically that I couldn't be accurate because corporate policy says I can only order breakfast food between 630 and 8. Why exclude 1.5 hours of the day? Why serve bean burritos at 8 am, but not 630? I assume that this 1 out of 4 restaurants I've been to was in the wrong. But thanks for ruining my morning anyway.

Lukewarm meat. RUDE girl preparing food. Nice guy at the counter. Dirty greasy counter. Won’t be back. 3 stars is generous only because Taco John’s is my favorite

Back in the early 2000s I worked for Taco John's corporate for a few years. When I moved to an area where they don't have these, I always make a point to stop and eat at one if I am traveling. Back then we were meticulous. I know that they have changed almost all of the top people now, and that this location is a franchise and not owned by the company, but I was disappointed by a couple of very noticable changes. No salsa bar? No super hot sauce, roasted red chipotle, Pico de Gallo, just packets of hot sauce? No olives on the super potato? No bringing my food to my table? As for this location I stopped for lunch off the highway today. I'll say that the potatoes seemed over-seasoned, and the meat and potato burrito had an awful lot of lettuce on it. None of this is too bad. Service was fast and friendly. Bathroom was immaculate. Lady at the register tried to upsell me twice, and when I didn't want a beverage she offered me a free water cup. Doing everything the way we use to. Taco John's has always been more expensive, but you get what you pay for. This one is pretty good, but I wish they had that super hot sauce.
