The Bake Shoppe

Very disappointed today in the lack of customer service experienced here today. We checked the website at what was offered but when we got to the store we were told single cupcakes were not able to be purchased, need to order 2 days in advance. Staff was very unprofessional and rude. Left with a very disappointed kid not able to get a special cupcake on his birthday.

Yummy - i ordered cinnamon rolls for my family as they were here for a visit and i didnt want to spend my time in the kitchen but with them and they were absolutely delicious and tasted like real home made rolls. thank you to the great bakers at the Bake Shoppe

Amazing and one of a kind items!!

I was throwing my friend a surprise 40th birthday dinner on 12-12 when I realized the morning before on 12-11 that I should have a cake for the group. I looked up several local bakeries and none would take an order less than 48 hours in advance, which is totally fair. However, I didn’t want to settle for pre-made cake, so I called the Bake Shoppe and they were able to take my request for a basic custom cake. This was really the luckiest break I could have gotten, as the cake received rave reviews from our entire group. It was so light, fluffy, and delicious! The design was simple but cute, which is exactly how I wanted it to be. I am so grateful they were able to fit in an order at the height of Christmas season and did such a great job. My friend absolutely loved it!

We ordered a cake for a birthday celebration my wife. My wife wanted the cake made a certain way with certain flavors and decorations. She gave that information to them and when we got the cake, it exactly what she ordered. The cake was delicious and enjoyed by everyone at the birthday celebration. The Bake Shoppe will be at the top of our list to order a cake from for our next celebration.

Everything I have had here is DELICIOUS! The employees are incredibly helpful & friendly. They also have the Barbara's Bake Shoppe champagne cake recipe which is the best there is!

We ordered a champagne cake from The Bake Shoppe for my mom’s 60th birthday, and it was absolutely incredible! Not only was the cake delicious—light, flavorful, and perfectly balanced—but the decoration was beyond our expectations. We had given them a picture of the tablecloth we were using for the party, and they matched the design perfectly. It tied everything together beautifully and made the whole setup feel extra special. Thank you, Bake Shoppe, for helping make the celebration so memorable. We’ll definitely be back for our next big event! 🎂🥂✨

For such a tall cake the filling was a thin layer ( raspberry) and we hardly tasted it. Maybe two layers of filling would have been tastier. My expectations were not met.

My husband went out of his way to surprise me with a birthday cake. He did a ton of research, read hundreds of reviews, and finally decided to buy from this so-called “The Bake Shoppe.” When he got there, some lady recommended the champagne cake — and he trusted her. Big mistake.

The cake looked cute, but the moment we tried it at midnight, it was an absolute disaster. The sponge was rock hard, the icing tasted like it came from a cheap dollar store tub, and the sweetness was unbearable. $30 for this? Even Walmart cakes are way better — and that says a lot.

This was hands down the worst cake we’ve ever had. Total waste of money. Huge disappointment. Never buying from this place again. Avoid at all costs.

They always deliver above my expectations. My daughter wanted a fun but creepy Halloween birthday cake and they made it a reality. She loved it!

Always great abd friendly service. I'm not sure if I've ate anything that wasn't good. They have a lot of great choices and even frangipane tarts!! You can even call ahead a day and order so you don't need to worry if it's out when you stop by

We had a 100th birthday celebration for my mom. I got good suggestions from the employees. The result looked and tasted so good. They did a great job! Thanks.

Took a little road trip to Des Moines and found this little gem of a bakery yesterday.
Just a little out of the way place that was worth finding.
Oh man. If you get nothing else, you have to get the Petit Fours. Crazy good! So good that you don't want to stop!😆
I loved the Champagne cake, too. I didn't think to take the picture when it looked untouched and beautiful, so you get a picture of it mid-devour😂
I also really liked a mini chocolate pie that I got. So good!
I will definitely be back and I will be ordering all of these same items to pick up when I'm in Des Moines.
Already looking forward to it!

I ordered a 21st birthday cake with reference photos and a long email chain list of what I had wanted for the cake. In the emails I specifically said I loved the blue gold theme in the reference picture. I wanted the gold drip (which I had gotten charged for). I provided all the toppers and told them I did not want all the toppers covering the entire top of the cake, I wanted it in a semi circle and I wanted the cake to say ‘happy birthday xxx’ and I also wanted the Oreos and chocolate shards sprayed gold as well.

As you can see the cake looked nothing like what I had wanted. It didn’t even say happy birthday. I had emailed them and all they could do is refund my decoration fee, yet not to mention I provided every topper including the gold balls, candles and Oreos (which they also didn’t spray gold).

The cake was decent and honestly this entire experience was not worth the trouble.

We ordered the champagne cake for a birthday party. The cake was ready on the day and time specified. Family and friends were so impressed with the cake. It was beautifully decorated and tasted fabulous. The cake made the birthday celebration all the more special. I highly recommend the Bake Shoppe.
