Tries to be a cool cafe. Decor is good. Coffee is good. Service. We'll maybe they were trying to be Parisians, the girls working there didn't seem like they wanted to be there.

Such a cute little spot for coffee + cafe food! We visited from out of town and had such a great experience here! They were so kind and welcoming and the food was so yummy! Not a ton of seating options but it felt cozy and welcoming!

Living in this town everyone is practically neighbors, and living so near to this cafe I finally decided to check it out.

First time in I was instantly greeted and welcomed warmly.

The coffee and food offerings were very tasty, and the fact that they offer oat milk is perfect.

The Petite Cafe was just what this town needed, it’s very charming and a beautiful addition to Winterset.

Stopped in while in town for a wedding and was very happy! Everyone was friendly and kind, the lavender latte was amazing, and the space is so cute! Would absolutely come back.

They also had gluten free options which were really good!

We recently spent six weeks driving around the US, something that we had promised ourselves to do for a number of years. We had a great time and found Americans to be kind, courteous and hospitable. On our list of places to visit was Winterset, to see the 'Bridges of Madison county' and also to visit the John Wayne museum. On our travels we had been somewhat surprised that there weren't more of the coffee shops of a style that we are used to in the UK with the range of coffee based drinks that we enjoy. The Petite cafe on the main square in Winterset however is a real gem, serving a great range of drinks all delivered by a superb barista who was, we assumed, also the owner. I had an excellent Macchiato, (in fact I had two!), while my wife had a proper cappuccino and we both also enjoyed some excellent home made cookies. If you enjoy good, professionally served coffee then treat yourself to a drive out to Winterset and visit the Petite coffee, I guarantee it will be worth it. :-)

I cannot rave about this cafe enough. Their coffees and their food items are always delicious. I have yet to try a drink or salad that I haven’t liked. I appreciate their clean ingredients which never leave me feeling guilty. I highly recommend!

Winterset has long needed a good coffee shop, and I've tried it several times since it first opened, each time hoping it would have improved. They have only ever offered oat milk or half&half for the their milk choices. While I understand some people prefer oat milk, I just don't at all unless it's in the just the right drink. Some days I really just want a regular vanilla latte. Something so basic really should be an option at any coffee shop.
Also, as someone who lives in Winterset and has a commute, I have to be out the door by 7:30am. Petite Cafe does not open until 8am, which makes going there during the week not an option. This week, I noticed on their social media that they were offering a new drink "BOGO all week long". That was on Monday. I couldn't make it during the week because of their hours, so today (Saturday) I checked again before I went to make sure it was truly "all week long" and saw two posts confirming it. When I arrived and tried to order the special buy-one-get-one, the cashier informed me "we aren't doing that anymore."
Frustrated, I bought the drink and left. Between the hours, the milk choices, the poor customer service, I am left not feeling like trying it again. Which is disappointing! Coffee shops should make you feel welcome, like you are part of the community, and I have only ever felt like I was a problem for wanting regular milk and needed educated. Today was the cherry on top. Creating deals to get people in the door and then telling them you aren't really doing it is not a great way to do business, and it's dishonest.
