Nice cocktail, a bartender’s creation. Nice view of the city during daylight. We had a reservation on a weeknight, checked in at ampersand as instructed. We were then escorted to the elevators & given directions by the restaurant staff. Definitely recommend a reservation.

Not sure about those negative reviews but luckily I didn’t check any of them before I made my reservation.
It is a good speakeasy, a 9-person occupancy when I visited on a Saturday night, which is about my max tolerance giving the limited space there. The bartender is excellent at amazing me with her improvised cocktails according to my requests (base liquor, tone, color, etc.) The vibe is what you’d expect from a speakeasy, dimmed light and enclosed environment with a window to appreciate the city skyline. And also you need to remind you self that you are visiting a speakeasy associated with KIN, not a dive bar on state street, so prepare your wallet.

Ok, I first must address the elephant in the room: $29 per cocktail, plus tax & tip = $72 for ONE ROUND!?!!! There is no menu, so you have no idea until you check out, but I had a Manhattan and my husband had just a shot of whiskey on the rocks. Neither of us asked for expensive top shelf spirit. It seems that $29 is just the flat price for every drink. The view is great, but there are lots of places with great views for half the price, so a second visit is a hard no for us and, frankly, there's nothing to even make it work a one time visit. There's nothing about the place that merits the price. I echo all of the other bad reviews here and I believe that the good ones just must be people they know. There are so few reviews, which is telling in and of itself. So, first off, they make you wait, for no real good reason, because the place is not at its capacity of 12. They did the same for the couple that came in after us. They were waiting in the Kin Lobby at the same time as us (in fact, they were there before us), but they kept them waiting like 45 minutes more for no reason. No one else had come out before they let them in. Second, the ambiance needs a LOT of improvement. It is by no means a speakeasy. It's simply a room in an office building (basically about a 10 x 10 office). There are bright lights over the bar, and in each corner of the room. A Speakeasy should have dim lighting and appropriate music, at the very least. The chairs weren't even nice or comfortable chairs. Seriously no redeeming qualities, much less speakeasy qualities. Definitely not a $72 experience.

Such an odd experience. We were told we were on the wait-list and it would be about an hour. We ended up waiting almost 3 hours and had to ask many times about what was going on. Once we got up to the bar, there was no one else in there so it was unclear why we were waiting so long. The room was very small and more awkward than intimate. The bartender also had very little idea about what was going on and was unable to make any recommendations. One "bartender recommended" drink was $18 and was by no means worth the wait or price. We left after only 20 minutes because of the underwhelming drinks, atmosphere, etc. Still generally confused about how this is an experience that people recommend.

Unprofessional and no communication skills at all! Waited 2 hours when they said it would only be 1 and didn’t even get to get anywhere.

I especially loved the elevator requiring a card and the bartenders who wont answer the phone... How do you get to this place?

It's like your stylish grandparents died, and you go home to visit and discover their liquor stash on the 14th floor... and thoroughly enjoy it.

Loved it, excellent drinks, fun atmosphere, great service. It’s a speakeasy, so figure it out.
