This has always been a favorite of ours however last night has left a sour taste in my mouth. The atmosphere was good, the food and service were sub par at best. First, ordering yourself, at the bar, has not been the greatest change but last night it was a really huge fail, that process needs some work. Having no wait staff isn’t a new thing, or unheard of in some restaurants and can be done without sacrificing the service to your customers. Idaho pizza is a great example of that! If you want your customers to seat themselves, order themselves and serve themselves then put the utensils out in the open. I had a heck of a time finding forks and napkins. The food was luke warm when it came out and most of my fries were overcooked, not a fan of burnt fries, especially when I look forward to dipping them in that homemade ketchup. Secondly, my burger was not well done like I asked, its was light pink throughout. The bottom bun had so much station sauce on it that it literally fell apart when I took my first bite. I ate the rest of my burger with no bottom bun. Put sauce on the burger and then lettuce on top of that, keeps the bun from getting too soggy, and who puts sauce on the bottom bun, the thinnest of the two pieces of bread that hold the whole thing together. Waited 15 more minutes to get a condiment I requested. This was after I was told once that it was available, then when my husband went to check on it for me he was told it wasn’t available by the same person and then a different staff member brought that condiment a few minutes later. My husband said his pizza was okay, wouldn’t order it again but it came out warm which was odd because it came out a few minutes after my burger. The salad bar was missing what i think is a staple to every salad, tomatoes! Where did the cherry tomatoes go? We did enjoy the live music, it was a bit loud but the food and service were what really made us disappointed in our choice to spend our date night at Hilltop. My husbands closing sentiment at the end of the evening, “boy that place is really going down hill” and I’d have to agree. I don’t know that we will make the trek again anytime soon.

Hilltop is a consistent stop for us after recreating near Lucky Peak or Idaho City. The service is friendly and mostly prompt, the atmosphere is fun and feels like a far departure from the Boise valley, the beer selection is always intriguing with a variety of styles and tastes, and the food is good; not amazing but good. To go from good to great, I would like to see them have more consistency in food temperature (have had several lukewarm dishes that would have been great had they been warmer).

The cheese burgers were fantastic. Theresa was over the top awesome as a bartender and Bailey crushed the service experience. If you are in Boise or headed to or from Idaho City, you are foolish if you don’t stop in and experience it.

This place was incredible! The hilltop burger is amazing. The fries are a specific crisp, and the homemade ketchup assists with them melting in your mouth. We will definitely continue to come here every drive out this way.The staff are extremely polite and kind. They engage in conversation with customers and actually care. We'd give them 10 stars if we could!If you are looking for great food and service, this place is highly recommended!

Great local place! They had a sign on the door apologizing in advance for being short staffed. You couldn't even tell. Fantastic service and the food was delicious. My husband got the pork sandwich - homemade bbq sauce was amazing. Pork was definitely slow cooked really well. I got the hot honey pizza - also fantastic. Thanks for an awesome dinner!
Really had a nice experience today hadn't been in there since high school. The salad bar was fantastic, and the pizza was far above anyting I expected. Very nice people and great atmosphere we will be back! #BoisePawn

What a nice treat after a good hike nearby! They a nice ambiance and a welcoming atmosphere. Cozy space and a good choice on the menu for food and drinks. Burgers as well as the finger steaks were wonderful! Fries were tasty and filling!

Dinned here with my family members it was my step mother and my Birthday. The service was great our waitress was awesome. She brought us a delicious ice cream topped fresh Brownie with candles. It was spectacular also the sentiment for our Birthday was very touching. I'm new to the Boise area so I have to say it was a friendly reminder of how people can make you feel welcome and make you want to come to a place just cause the service was so beyond what is expected. Like I work in this industry so I am going say if you don't give this gem of a place a try then you will miss the experience that will you thinking I'm glad stop there.
