Let me paint the vibe for you. It reminds me of being on the islands in Hawaii. The music choice makes the environment calm and nice. When I lived in Hawaii I would go by the water and get sushi and the owner there would play reggae and the ocean breeze would hit you in the face after getting a nice tan from the sun as you get crystallized by the the salt crystals from the ocean waves. Eating here brought back memories.
1st trip
This place is awesome. I got the bulgogi bento and a side of kimchi. My mother used to make this for me all the time. I would have ate more but the large beer got me too full. Everything was great. Service to food all 10/10. Cute girl works here too. It’s a Family business and a young man owns the place and family and friends help make this place what it is. I will support this place any day. New spot unlocked when I’m in Boise. See you next time.
2nd trip
I got the set lunch menu and a apocalypse ipa which I never tried before. The beer is actually really good. So I got 4 pieces of tuna and 2 pieces of eel and a Diablo roll. For the Apps I got the cucumber salad and miso soup. All good. Then there’s the poke. This was actually really good and the sesame oil mixed in with Masago, avacado and tuna was really tasty. Btw I believe the chef uses the really good part of the tuna for the poke. It’s the dark tuna and full of flavor. I always think I’m going to order more but I’m always full after. They give a lot of food for the amount you pay. I even ordered a small beer and I’m more full than the last time I came here. Will try something else next time. I changed up the orders but One thing that hasn’t changed is the girl is still cute. See you later on my third trip.

Shogun Sushi used to be one of my go-to spots for quality sushi at a fair price. Unfortunately, things have changed. Prices have gone up noticeably, and at the same time, the food quality has declined. The flavors and freshness that once stood out now feel inconsistent. It’s disappointing to see a place that was once excellent become just average. Still decent, but no longer worth the premium they’re charging.

Service, food, decor all good for a casual Japanese dinner
Just got here at 1:30, lady told me they won’t seat me for lunch, didn’t let me inside. Checked hours and says closes at 2pm. Drove all the way over here for nothing! Bad! Won’t be back.

Worst sushi I've ever had. Stale, cold, tough & chewy tempura shrimp in each sushi roll. I thought I was going to be sick.

Update--
Shogun is still a great sushi restaurant but.....
Almost all of their rolls have shrimp tempura as the base. This is a shift over the past few years to cut costs. It leads to sushi fatigue as most of the rolls taste very similar.
At $34.99 the value is good, but I'd rather go somewhere with more variety.
Great sushi and great service. Food is consistent here as well as the service.
Restaurant is kind of small - can lead to a wait time here and there.
Recently the AYCE was changed to a set menu (for the same price). It's still more food than most people can eat, but be aware if you're rolling in planning on putting down 7 pounds of rice and fish.
I've visited a few times since COVID hit, and the "thickness" of the fish on the sushi and nigiri can vary. Last time it was very thin. Probably just due to variation of sushi chef.
It's one of our favorite sushi places in town. You won't regret visiting!
Okay sushi but there alot of other places you can get better sushi for less money. Staff was kind and friendly, but the restaurant is small. It's not great for parties of more than 5 or 6 people.

The rice wasn't cooked all the way and was ice cold. Sushi rice should be room temperature. The shrimp in the tempura was obviously purchased precooked. They were cold and chewy. The texture was terribly bad. We eat sushi ALL the time. The is the worst I've had by far. It was pretty much the same as grocery store sushi.?
