Ordered a shrimp burrito and was very pleased. The burrito was flavorful, had plenty of shrimp, and was a good size.
Salsa, sour cream, and pico are served on the side instead of in which isn’t my preference but is on the menu so I can’t knock them for that.

My husband and I have lived in Boise almost 4 years, and his family is all out here as well. When it came to Christmas Eve dinner this year, I wanted to recreate a tradition my family always used to do: tamales!!!
I was given a recommendation by a friend to try Tamales Nelly. They had good reviews on Google and I thought we would give it a try. On November 10th, I placed an order for 2 dozen tamales to be picked up at 4pm on Christmas Eve. When making the order, I noticed the online site had different options than was promoted by the business for Christmas Eve tamale orders. After placing my order, I called the business and asked if we could swap one of our dozen for one of the options listed by the business. The woman I spoke to said, “no problem! We will swap it. See you at 4pm on the 24th”. I also received a confirmation email and text about my order and pick up. I was charged $57 (plus tip) for the order.
When Christmas Eve rolled around, we were so excited for our tamales… until… I got a text from Tamales Nelly at 12:58pm (see below) cancelling my order. After seeing this, I tried calling the business 4 times, with no answer. My husband scoured their facebook page and saw a comment made on a post from a while back that showed they told a customer Christmas Eve pickups would be “9-12”.
Honestly, I was flabbergasted. Tamales Nelly did not call me, text me, or email me ANYTHING prior to the one shown below. They knew we had a 4pm pick up since November 10th and did NOTHING to attempt to ask us to change our pick up time (which I would have happily done!). I highly doubt they even made our tamales, which means they knew they were going to cancel my order well before 1pm on Christmas Eve.
I checked my bank account this morning and saw the refund, which is why I am making this post now. Tamales Nelly will NEVER have my business and I encourage anyone reading this to take heed if you are ever dealing with them. I am an understanding person but there is no excuse to have such poor business etiquette and send a text and allow for no communication back. I worked retail for years and worked closing shifts on Christmas Eve, New Years, etc. I totally understand a business wanting to have family time and spare their employees from working during the holidays, but do NOT promote one thing to get sales, and then cancel on folks the day of!!!
Okay, rant over. I ended up going to Costco and buying their tamales in the last minute scramble for food. We made the best of it and had a lovely Christmas Eve despite the panic!

I got one tamale, paid $3.25, most of it was masa, not much filling at ALL. Not a very good value. But I gotta say, their spicy salsa is AWESOME!!!

It is hard to find good vegetarian tamales but Nelly has them! Very good price and very good food. I will come back in the future for more tamales.
Vegetarian options: The jalapeño and cheese tamales were a good vegetarian but most items weren't vegetarian.
So good!!! I did not expect such good food from such a small place, but that is some of the best Mexican food I've ever had.

Not sure what everyone is ranting and raving about. Beans had no flavor, rice was not great at all. First time at this place and had to try it because of the reviews. I ordered tacos and my first bite of my first taco it had the lady's hair in it. Even more disgusting that her hair looked nappy as it was. I took the plate back and she asked if I wanted her to exchange my tacos. I answered with no thank you I would like my money back and she proceeded to ask me if I was sure. I finally told her that I was grosed out and to give me my money back. The two ladies there were giggling about it and were talking smack about the whole situation like excuse me I am fluent in Spanish. So instead of dumping the food they I returned they put it away and saved it. GROSS ? ? ?

This is my second time visiting here while in town. The first time it was pretty good. This time I wasn't too happy with what I got. I got tamales and they were very Bland with little flavor. Same for the rice, I feel that I can make better at home. The beans were good. The prices were decent. I don't think I would come back again though after what I got this time. The tamales were kind of slimy and just didn't taste very good overall. This is a super cute little shopping area with lots of food options. The area feels very safe.
